A kirtan is a musical practice in the form of a call-and-response chanting of sacred mantras. Creating community connection, fostering love, peace and joy.
Accompanied with instruments like the harmonium, guitar, singing bowls, and drums.

Rooted in India’s Bhakti tradition, Kirtan is a form of yoga (Bhakti Yoga, the yoga of devotion) that encourages direct emotional connection with the divine and supports a deep meditative state through repetition of sacred mantras.

At Yoga 101, we create a joyful space to gather through sound and mantra—come to listen, sing along, or dance if you feel inspired!

It’s open to everyone, creating a feeling of peace, unity, and shared experience.

When: Friday 30th January, starting at 7.30 pm
Where: Yoga 101

There will be chai and treats afterward if you would like to stay on. Kirtan ends at 8.30 pm, and the whole event wraps up at 9.30 pm

Pose of the Day
Extended Child’s Pose aka

A calming pose or NOT???

This pose is said to be a
•calming pose,
•regulates nervous system
•gentle stretch for the lower back to ease back pain
•eases menstrual cramping
•eases a bloated tummy
•has a calming effect on the mind

And although I have experienced all these benefits myself, I know for some people this is the most uncomfortable and inaccessible pose they have tried!

Maybe because of the full knee flexion or hip flexion it requires, or if there is tightness in the lower back, it can be challenging too!

Some people find their tummy, or chest prevents them from folding forward or that their breath feels restricted.

The antidote to these obstacles..

~To unlock the breath in this pose, try breathing into the back ribs when you are folding forward..

~To create more space for your tummy or chest, try toes together and taking your knees out wider

~To reduce knee or hip restriction try straddling over a bolster/s or pillow/s to add height and take the pressure off your joints.

YOGA IS FOR EVERYONE
