Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health

Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health We care about the health of our community as an entire population.

Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health is a not-for-profit community health organisation, providing a range of health, wellbeing and community services across Sunbury and the Macedon Ranges. Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health is a not-for-profit community health organisation, providing a range of services that respond to the needs of Sunbury, the Macedon Ranges and its surrounding communities. We are concerned not just about ill-health and treatment of disease, but about the factors that actually predict whether someone is healthy, like strong families, social cohesion and mental health, as well as the prevalence of risks such as obesity, tobacco, alcohol and drug use, family violence, problem gambling, and vulnerabilities that come from low incomes or ageing. We believe that it’s in making improvements to these factors that we make the biggest difference to health and wellbeing overall. While we are available to the entire community of Sunbury, the Macedon Ranges and its surrounds, we prioritise our services to those whose health and wellbeing is vulnerable or at risk. We invest our efforts where evidence exists that needs exist, and where we have evidence of approaches that work. For our Terms of Use for this page go to:

Each of us has the right to feel equal, safe, and respected in our s*xual experiences.

Expectations about how s*x should look, sound, and feel still often centre around social norms that prioritise men’s satisfaction at the expense of mutual respect, safety and pleasure.

By promoting education and media that reflect diverse and respectful representations of s*xuality, we can redefine the norms and support more equal and fulfilling relationships and intimacy for people of all genders.

To learn more about media that supports s*xual and reproductive health, take a look at ConSensual a zine created for young people, by young people as part of the Taking ACtion project.

Every child should feel equal, safe, and respected. However, rigid gender stereotypes limit our children from a young age. Calling girls “bossy” when they express their opinions, not allowing boys to cry or children to express their gender in ways that affirm them can feed into cultures that support gender-based violence, transphobia and homophobia. When children feel pressured by, or don’t meet, social expectations of their gender it can be unsafe for them and others.

We know that celebrating positive gender norms and children’s authentic selves helps children challenge harmful gender stereotypes and learn about respectful relationships.

We want to acknowledge that family violence can affect anyone, and that support is available:

Primary prevention is about stopping violence before it starts. In this video, Our Watch partnered with Tangentyere Women's Family Safety Group to share how they are stopping violence before it starts through their Girls Can Boys Can Project. This project empowers children to thrive and grow up to be whoever they want to be, free from discrimination.

How wonderful to see Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health represented as part of the rich tapestry of pride and LGBTIQA+ service delivery across regional Victoria. If you are in Melbourne, pay a visit to the Victorian Pride Centre and you too can check out this incredible mural.

Here is the Pride Centre's explanation around the mural:
This mural celebrates the rich tapestry of LGBTIQA+ communities across regional Victoria. The symbols, colours, and landmarks represent the towns, communities, and pride organisations who are working to make their corner of the state more inclusive, visible, and connected. This q***r cartography was commissioned to honour the strength, creativity, and resilience of regional pride and our shared connections. The mural invites you to explore the many ways pride lives and thrives across Victoria. We recognise that not every organisation or community is represented here. This is a living map, and we welcome additions as our networks continue to grow. If your group would like to be included, please let us know.
