Cultivating Optimal Health in Summer!
Summer is a time of heightened activity, creativity, fullness & expansion. It's the time to be out & about, sharing our warmth, our fun & our energy with others.
Summer marks the time of the fire element 🔥which in Oriental Medicine correlates to the heart.❤️ The heart is all about love, connectedness, warmth, & joy. It not only governs our ability to cultivate & nurture our relationship to self & others,but also our ability to share our love warmth & joy with our friends, colleagues, partners, strangers & indeed all inhabitants of earth!
When the Fire element is in balance we can effortlessly share our love, & joy. Our heart is open to new possibilities & experiences. We are warm, trusting, communicative, playful, friendly, open, content, calm & radiant. People are naturally drawn to us. Think Joy, sharing, fun, laughter, play & love this summer!
If however our fire element becomes depleted, the spark low. We can feel flat, lifeless, isolated, depressed & anxious.
Another heart imbalance is when the fire element blazes out of control where feelings of overwhelm are the norm & we may feel like we are constantly seeking attention & approval, & finding ourselves laughing out loud inappropriately & at times taking on a scary manic demeanour. 😳 Pushing away the very people we so sorely want connectedness with!
Common complaints of a fire imbalance are anxiety depression, loss of spark, insomnia, apathy, wanting to control others, feeling flat & dull, feeling isolated & alone, inability to trust, unable to feel vulnerable.
Foods to stay cool!
Watermelon, cucumbers, coconut water. Think fresh juicy foods. Salads, lightly steamed vegetables, foods that keep you feeling light & energised. Avoid or limit fried salty & heavy foods.
To help keep our family hydrated throughout the summertime we make a big jug of water with pieces of cucumber & mint in the bottom & then top up throughout the day. So refreshing!
