📣 Do not let the pressure of January 1st dictate when you set your goals

While the start of a new year may provide motivation for setting new goals, the best time to doable goals is when you are truly ready to do so and take action.

When you are ready to set goals here are some steps to guide you:

1. Start by setting specific and realistic goals. Make sure they're achievable and align with what you truly want to accomplish.

2. Break your goals down into smaller, manageable steps. This way, you can track your progress and celebrate each milestone along the way.

3. Stay motivated and accountable. Find ways to stay inspired, whether it's through a supportive community, a journal, or even a vision board. Revisit your goals regularly to make adjustments and align to your current circumstances.

Remember, it's all about taking small steps and staying committed. You got this! 💪🏼

This week is Queensland Disability Action Week! Let's celebrate the impact those with disabilities have in our community and in the workplace.

This years theme - 'Access ignites: it’s good business' focuses on increasing employment and economic participation of people with disability, visible as well as invisible disabilities.

Employers are encouraged to look at ways to improve access for people with disabilities by recruiting and retaining staff with a disability and taking steps to be accessible to customers living with disability.

Let’s spread the awareness this week and continue advocating for more access and equal opportunities for everyone living with a disability!

Establishing boundaries can help improve your interpersonal relationships and overall wellbeing. It is an act of self-respect and can lead to more fulfilling relationships.

Ultimately, setting boundaries in relationships promotes healthier and more fulfilling connections with others.

Remember, boundaries are unique to each individual and relationship, so it's important to communicate and establish them based on your own needs and values.

Self-awareness is the ability to recognise and understand oneself, including thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.
Being self-aware involves introspection and reflection on our own experiences and actions.

Becoming self-aware, can help us gain insight into our strengths, weaknesses, and motivations, leading to personal growth and development.

How do I increase self-awareness?
1. Take time to think about your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.

2. Ask yourself why you think, feel or act in certain ways.

3. Try challenging your beliefs by questioning and examining the assumptions and beliefs you hold .

4. Expose yourself to different perspectives or engage in open-minded discussions, and seek information that challenges your existing beliefs.

5. Seeking counselling can provide a safe space to explore your inner self and gain deeper self-awareness.

7 Things You May Not Know About Counselling.

1. Registered counsellors are qualified and trained professionals who have qualifications such as a bachelor's or master's degree.

2. Counselling aims to reduce the risk of and/or prevent mental illness whilst providing treatment for individuals with current mental illnesses.

3. Registered counsellors have certain requirements they must uphold annually such as completing a set amount of hours of supervision as well as gaining points for professional development.

4. The counselling process provides individuals with a space to learn new skills that can vastly improve their overall wellbeing.

5. Counselling offers a safe space where clients can collaborate with their counsellor to promote overall mental health and wellbeing.

6. You do not need to have a "problem" to attend counselling. Counselling supports those in all walks of life and counsellors actively listen to best support the individual in a person-centred manner.

7. Counselling is not a one-size-fits-all approach.
There are many methods and styles of counselling, this is where the client and counsellor can collaborate to find what style or model of counselling fits them and their situation.

January has nearly come to an end already. Some of us have set goals for 2023, others may still be undecided.

The new year period may have passed and goals may not have been set, but this does not define the year ahead and does not take away the opportunity to create new goals in the present and future.

Remember, every day is a new day to create a goal or take that first step to reach it. The date does not have to be January 1st to create change in your life!
