We underestimate the power of eating and drinking in childbirth: keep in mind your uterus is a muscle that is working HARD - give it the energy it needs to do it’s job effectively. BUT - here’s the catch (and this was mine and many other women’s experiences) - you won’t necessarily want to eat or drink in labour 🙈 It’s not exactly your top priority or focus! This is why it’s good to eat when you can / want to in EARLY LABOUR but if labour is long you’ll need extra sustenance later down the road …

Check out this boss birthing mamma letting her support team feed her in between contractions . It might be the smallest of sips or bites, but it will make a difference: especially for longer labours 👍

Get your support team to add nutrients and minerals to your water and pick easy to eat foods that will convert well to energy for your body

A big hurdle I personally struggled with on my BF journey was this paradox of the ideal versus the reality. This picture is a great summary of that - it just captures the ideal - it doesn’t show the many, many, many nights of hardship that went into mine and Indie’s breastfeeding journey …

One of the biggest dis-services modern culture and societal messaging does to new mothers is to state that this is a natural process and should therefore come easily. In fact this tends to be the lens that motherhood in general has been portrayed through for many years. But when has anything ‘natural’ been easy?! I grew up on David Attenborough wildlife documentaries and I can confidently state that world of nature is rarely easy (remember the baby lizard and the pit of hungry snakes anyone?!)

BF for many is not easy. It can be physically painful . It can have connotations we are really uncomfortable with (yes I’m talking about the ni**le and its role in s*x). It can be extremely frustrating and anxiety inducing when we are struggling with supply / demand and issues with reflux, colic and latching, to name a few. To go into this experience thinking it ‘should’ feel easy, natural and ‘second nature’ can therefore lead us to a pretty painful experience both mentally and physically. The amount of mother’s that have feelings of failure that I have spoken to in my line of work just saddens me in my heart - they are not failing - they are being failed.

And this is why it is so important that information on BF is out there: women deserve to know all the wonderful benefits: but we also deserve to know the realities of the struggles we might face: and how we might therefore best support ourselves to face these. And ultimately we deserve to feel empowered to make our own choices about what is right for us and our babies based on our own personal circumstances and the support we have. Each breastfeeding journey is unique: even between children. Let’s respect the journey and not hold it up to an ideal.

I am excited to announce the split of my business into seperate Instagram accounts and seperate websites to allow me to better service the demographics I work across.

This Instagram page has now become “The Rise” under the handle .me: in line with the website www.therise.me that will shortly follow : it is your resource for all things pregnancy, birth and early motherhood.

Rise Yoga will continue to operate for all things Yoga & Yoga Therapy based: including my stress release classes and workshops and one-on-one Yoga Therapy sessions. You can follow things related to this space under the handle
and the website will stay the same www.riseyoga.com.au

Hi folks 👋 My new Stress Release Yoga Class starts next Saturday 17th June at Buderim Cricket Club (Ballinger Road) at 8am

This will be a weekly 75 minute stress-release class to restore, revitalise and rejuvenate the body and mind for the weekend ahead. All are welcome : beginner and everyBODY friendly.

Movement is medicine so we will start with various yoga poses and once we are starting to relax the Nervous System, we’ll go deeper with some breath work / visualisation /meditation techniques before finishing with a short 15 minute Yoga Nidra - yum!

CLASS INFO

* Saturday mornings: 8am-9.15am with option to stay for a cup of coffee / chai / tea
* Location: Buderim Cricket Club: Ballinger Road, Buderim
* Facilities: ample free parking: toilets: kitchenette with refreshments/ disabled access ramp
* Mat & props provided . Feel free to bring your own if you prefer
* Exchange : $20 a class - every 5th class is on me 👍

Class Benefits

The stress hormone Cortisol is reduced in the body by:

- Physical movement (e.g: yoga postures called “Asanas”)
- Effective breathing to reset the Nervous System (e.g: Yogic breathing techniques called “Pranayama”)
- Building new neural pathways that change our Nervous System responses to situations (e.g: Yogic meditation and visualisation techniques, including Yoga Nidra)

When we reduce stored stress in the body we are more likely to see:

- Improved sleep quality
- A higher ‘Window of Tolerance” in our more challenging interactions and experiences
- A more positive and joyful outlook on life
- An ability to get more creative/ take on new projects / challenges

ABOUT THE CLASS 🌱

Would you like to feel more comfortable in your ever changing pregnant body; and feel more connected with your baby as well as learn key tools to better prepare you for childbirth and childbirth recovery?

Come and connect with other pregnant women for a weekly 75 minute class where we will:

• Build STRENGTH for childbirth & recovery 
• Create SPACE and RELIEF in your pregnant body 
• Encourage OPTIMAL BIRTH POSITION for your baby
• MANAGE PAIN & CHALLENGES in and after Child Birth (Vaginal & C-Section) by learning yoga poses, breathing techniques, mudras, visualisation & meditation techniques
• RELEASE STEESS & RELEIVE PREGNANCY INSOMNIA via breathing techniques
• Learn PELVIC FLOOR AWARENESS and optimal function for Pregnancy 
• Adjust your POSTURE to better support your changing anatomy 
• Set active INTENTIONS for pregnancy, birth and early motherhood -  creating a working Mantra and Sankalpa 
• Develop INTUITION and trust with your body and your Nervous System

Run in 6 week rotations; we will cover a different key anatomical area of the pregnant body each week to make sure we are relieving and supporting you from head to toe. 

Want to also get to know some other pregnant women? Then feel free to hang around after class for herbal tea in our community area . 

Suitable for women at 12+ weeks pregnant; no previous yoga experience required. The class will be adapted to include any modifications for your specific pregnancy needs.
