NeuroRehabilitation Sunshine Coast held our first ultrasound workshop of the year this past week. Our first incorporating limb spasticity and cervical dystonia. Thanks to AbbVie and Mindray for ongoing support.

The May 2025 workshop is now open for applications. 2 positions remaining.

Applications are open for NeuroRehabilitation Sunshine Coast Anatomy & Ultrasound Workshops in 2025. Dates will be released periodically with February the first available. Next year we incorporate neck anatomy for cervical dystonia, as well as continue with the limbs for spasticity.
Applications will be considered from consultants and accredited registrars in the specialities of Rehabilitation Medicine and Neurology.
Workshop sponsors will include and with continuing to provide expert ultrasound support.

The focused Anatomy and Ultrasound workshops for 2024 are filling up fast at NeuroRehabilitation Sunshine Coast. There are 6 workshops supported by this year in our Sunshine Coast rooms. Dates for the 2024 NeuroRehabilitation Sunshine Coast Anatomy and Ultrasound Workshops have been released.

The 1.5 day workshop is open to accredited registrars and consultants in Rehabilitation medicine, Neurology, Orthopaedic surgery, Plastic surgery and Geriatric medicine to learn advanced ultrasound skills and anatomy for intramuscular injection of botulinum toxin for upper and lower limb spasticity.

We have been asked and we have come to the party. NeuroRehabilitation Sunshine Coast is pleased to provide 2 additional Anatomy and Ultrasound workshops in 2023.
The first will be 5-6 October 2023 and the second will be 9-10 November 2023.

I am looking forward to welcoming Second Skin Pty Ltd [https://www.secondskin.com.au] to NeuroRehabilitation Sunshine Coast in the very near future. Whilst compression garments and splints can be used for a variety of conditions, their use in managing is undisputed. Second Skin is a leader in its field and it will be a privelege to work together.
On 31st May 2023 we will be available in my consulting rooms on the Sunshine Coast with more clinics to follow thereafter.

I recently had the opportunity to help out with creating an education resource for patients with post-stroke spasticity (PSS)...

Now why did I do this and why is this important?

Data released by the Stroke Foundation estimates there were more than 445,000 survivors of stroke living in our community in 2020.
Approximately 30% of stroke survivors develop spasticity.
Approximately half of the 30% have problematic spasticity that ought to be treated.

Now even though I forget my high school maths really well, I'm estimating there are approximately 65,000 Australians that are in need of treatment for PSS. I can promise that my colleagues and I aren't presently looking after that many PSS patients.

So take a look and pass it on to your clients with . It's a quick easy to follow resource.

PS... 65,000 in need of treatment doesn't even include those living with other conditions that cause spasticity. Think cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain and spinal injuries, and the plethora of all the other less common upper motor neuron conditions out there.

NeuroRehabilitation Sunshine Coast specialises in botulinum toxin (Botox) injections for spasticity related to brain and spinal cord injuries and cervical dystonia. Clinics in Birtinya and Hervey Bay, Queensland.

It's been a busy start to the year with Anatomy and Ultrasound Workshops! From education at My Therapy Crew, to Westmead Hospital, Cairns Private Hospital and already 3 workshops in our own NeuroRehabilitation Sunshine Coast there has been plenty of talk about and . Throw in a little cervical dystonia and that's just the first quarter. Very enjoyable to be involved in these education opportunities and see the quality of treatment improve across the country.
