I was recently asked by someone.. How come I haven't heard of you before. You have worked as personal physio for 2 of the fastest men on the planet ever and I don't know who you are. You have to do something about this.

Being bold and courageous. Running towards my greatness everyday!

To understand movement is to connect the dots between the treatment table and the training environment and the field of play. Practitioners don't be afraid to use your coaching eye... we all know often "pain" or "niggles" are not always pathological rather a sign of overload, poor biomechanics or movement patterns. Know and understand the difference between poor and great quality movement for the athlete in front of you 👊🏻👊🏻

Your elephant is your BS, your blind spot. Until you choose to see your elephant and own your BS, you cannot find your true performance gap or go next level?
What BS are you hanging on to?

It has been so great to be in Louisville, Kentucky @ The University of Louisville and the teaching and speaking all things MOVEMENT in BASKETBALL. We spent the last few days traversing THE CLINICAL-PERFORMANCE CONTINUUM. Movement of course being the "CONNECTOR OF THE DOTS". When one can truly "KNOW and UNDERSTAND" movement and how it impacts PERFORMANCE, CAPACITY AND PAIN" you can become a true "PERFORMANCE CHANGE MAKER". Thanks , .zucca, and for allowing me to be on your performance journey.

Can we keep an injured athlete on the Performance pathway?

I believe the answer is always YES. But it may require a CHANGE, or an EVOLUTION in thinking.

I use the term CLINICAL-PERFORMANCE CONTINUUM to describe the pathway in which I believe an athlete will always sit somewhere.

What if we could see INJURY AS AN OPPORTUNITY to be better. An opportunity to CLOSE THE PERFORMANCE GAP.

Traditional models have keep PERFORMANCE and CLINICAL PATHWAYS SEPERATE. When some one is injured they have a CLINICAL FOCUS and outside of injury, have a PERFORMANCE FOCUS.

Ironically the injury itself, in my experience is actually an indicator of the athletes PERFORMANCE GAP, and can better guide the PERFORMANCE FOCUS.

Injured or not it is imperative that we can keep an athlete on the PERFORMANCE PATHWAY, on the CLINICAL-PERFORMANCE CONTINUUM.
How do we do this?

As long as an athlete has at least a 1% focus on performance, they maintain on the continuum. If this drops to zero, they are no longer on the continuum. They are no longer on the PERFORMANCE PATHWAY.

INJURY IS INFORMATION, injury is feedback. Injury is a opportunity to review and do things better. A NBA player sprains their ankle. I get at this time there is largely going to be a clinical focus. Maybe 60-70%, and the rest still performance. Conditioning, skills and closing the performance gap. Does the ankle need to be more robust, improve proprioception or further up the chain? Do they need to strengthen the hip, core/

And when would you let this athlete touch a ball?

What would you do to keep this athlete on THE CLINICAL-PERFORMANCE CONTINUUM?

Performance care: traversing the clinical performance continuum.
What if we could consider that every athlete is always at some point of the "PERFORMANCE CARE CONTINUUM". Whether an athlete is injured or not, for optimum performance they need performance care. That is they need to look after and "service" not only their bodies but their minds.
When an athlete is 100% with no issues and they are receiving maintenance treatment and performance/strength coaching they maybe 100% on the performance end of the continuum, whilst someone who has just sprained their ankle maybe 70% clinical but still 30% performance focused.
Just because an athlete gets injured it doesn't mean that we stop working in the direction of performance goals. It is just that the "rules of engagement" have changed.
Mentally, physically and emotionally I believe it is imperative to keep an athlete on this continuum. If performance focus slips to zero. They are no longer on the continuum and if is so much harder to get the back.

If this concept interests you. More coming soon as small courses as well. Watch this space.

TRAIN CARE--FULLY, so you can COMPETE CARE--FREE. To eloborate, training particularly early in the season as it is for track athletes is where we can try things, test how we move , what we need to think and feel for best results. We need to train with care, FULLY meaning 100% present with intent. Know what you are meant to feel, hear or experience! If you don't know ASK. This is what coaches are there for... as the season progresses it is hope there is less focus on thinking and more doing. So by the end of the season when it really counts you can JUST DO, JUST EXECUTE. You have trained correctly and intently such that it is almost instinct. And you can COMPETE
"CARE-FREE" 👊🏻👊🏻
