With the in-home care waitlist now surpassing 200,000, aged care advocates are calling on the government to "confront" the crisis, saying the sector is stretched beyond capacity.
Thea McCroary, Chief Operating Officer of Prestige Inhome Care, says thousands of older Australians are now waiting far longer than they should for essential in-home care, and "often at the very moment they need support most.
The November reforms didn't create the problem; they've just made it impossible to ignore."
Prestige CEO, Mark O'Brien, echoes McCroary's sentiment, saying "this is an incredibly important moment for home care in Australia.
We’re seeing rising expectations from families, a workforce under pressure, and major reforms that will redefine how care is delivered. Families have the right to feel confident that their loved ones can live safely at home, supported by a team they trust completely."
