Does your child snore at night? 🤔

Many parents notice snoring, but don’t always realise it can sometimes be linked to airway obstruction.

Children with airway obstruction may:

• Snore at night
• Keep their mouth open during the day
• Seem tired despite getting enough sleep

Airway issues can affect more than sleep. They may impact:

• Attention and learning
• Hearing
• Speech and language development

Airway obstruction can also be associated with middle ear issues that affect hearing, which may influence speech development.

Over time, open-mouth posture can affect how the lips and tongue work together to produce clear speech sounds.

If your child snores frequently, breathes through their mouth, or seems very tired during the day, it may be worth looking into.

📍 Speech therapy available via telehealth across Australia
📍 In-person sessions available on the Sunshine Coast

A veces:
• Hablamos demasiado
• No damos suficiente tiempo
• Hacemos demasiadas preguntas

Prueba esto en su lugar 👇
Observa. Espera.

Imítalo/a.

If your child isn’t responding during play…
It might not be what you think.

Sometimes, we:

• Talk too much
• Don’t give enough time
• Ask too many questions

Try this instead 👇

Observe. Wait.
Follow their lead.
Give your child time to respond.

Communication doesn’t always look like words — it can be eye contact, sounds, gestures, or even silly actions.

Show interest in what they’re doing. Copy them. Join their play.

These small shifts build connection — and connection supports communication.

If you have concerns about your child’s development, speak to a speech pathologist.

Save this or share it with a parent who needs it 💛

You don’t need expensive toys to build communication…

Try this 👇
Bubbles 🫧
Pause before blowing… and wait.

Look for your child to:

• Look at you
• Reach or point
• Make a sound

Then blow again.

This teaches your child:

👉 “When I do something… something happens”

These small moments help build the following:

• Attention
• Interaction
• Early communication

Follow your child’s lead and keep it fun.

If you have concerns about your child’s development, speak to a speech pathologist.

Save this post or share it with a parent who might need it.

“Wait and see” isn’t always the answer.

By 12 months, most babies are starting to:

• Say a word
• Use gestures
• Look for things that are out of sight

If these skills aren’t there yet, it’s worth taking a closer look.

Trust your gut — you know your child best.

If you have concerns, speak to a speech pathologist.

Early support can make a big difference.

Save or share with a parent who needs this.

A child is hurting…

And we tell them to ignore it.
But ignoring doesn’t make it easier.

It doesn’t make it hurt less.

And it doesn’t make it stop.

Neurodiverse children, in particular, are impacted by this — often left to navigate social challenges without the support they actually need.

Every child deserves to feel safe being exactly who they are.

What does communication look like before words?

Yesterday we talked about how communication starts long before words…Here’s what that actually looks like 👇

It’s not just talking.

It’s the small, everyday interactions you might not even realise are building communication:

👀 Looking at you
🤝 Sharing attention
🔁 Taking turns
🗣️ Babbling

These early skills form the foundation of communication—and they develop through simple, playful interactions with you.

When you respond, pause, copy your child’s sounds, or share a moment together, you’re helping them learn how communication works.

And that’s where play comes in.

If you have questions about your child’s communication, early support can make a big difference.

Did you know that children begin communicating in infancy – long before they use complete sentences?

Babies use eye contact, shared attention, cooing, babbling, gestures, and changes in their intonation to communicate from the first few months of life. These early interactions lay the foundation for speech and language development.

Simple, everyday activities — like looking at the same toy, responding to a baby's sounds, or taking turns in "conversation" — teach children the importance of communication.

If you have questions about your child’s speech, language, or communication development, support from a speech pathologist can help guide the next steps.
