Build Balance and Strength with Aqua Yoga 💧

Because the water is constantly shifting and moving, during a water class it may be more difficult to hold poses that require elements of balance. For some poses including tree, warrior III, and dancer's pose.

the advantage with this is that you get to engage your core muscles in a new way, which will help to increase your strength and balance in the long run. The next time you try the same pose on land, you will feel more stable and confident.

My Top Tip to instantly reduce stress, anxiety and pain.

- Get in the water, if that is the Pool, ocean, lake and immerse yourself to the element and float.
Concentrate on the feel of the water upon your skin. Envision the power of the water washing away pain and negative thoughts 💭

If you are at home, you can use the shower 🚿-

💦 It’s simple, it makes a difference

💦When in shower, visualize the water washing away any stress, anxiety, pain or energy that is not your own.

💦 close your eyes and feel the water washing away your negative thoughts

💦 feel sadness, regret, anger, depression washing right off of you

💦 Let it all go down the drain. You feel much more lighter, brighter and recharged

💦after your finished thank the water

From Tadasana (Mountain pose), turn your left toes out step it towards the pool wall and widen your stand.

Bend the left knee and hinge from the left hip, shift all the weight on to the left foot. Keeping left knee extended or slightly bent, whatever works best for balance and your body. Left hand goes to the pool edge and both arms are extended out in a T position or left arm. If using the pool edge, bring hand on top flat to protect the wrist.

Reach the right leg and the foot foot parallel to the surface of the water.

The right side of your hip stays over the lower hip, your hip does not have to be stacked like a "toast" remember we all have different bodies and shapes, what works for one student doesn't work for everyone.

The top arm can raise up if you want, but can also be bend and hand to the right hip. You can look up, froward or down, whatever feels best for your neck.

Flexing the right foot can help the balance and also helps to use the right hamstring so we can activate the right glute ( right knee can be straight or slightly bent). Engage your core.

Bend the left knee to come down. Step the right foot back. Come back up to standing. Repeat on the other side.

Modification - You can use a pool noodle for this posture as to assist your balance. Bring the pool noodle into your left hand and lean to the left, hinge from the left hip.

Have fun practicing Aqua yoga!🥳

Aqua yoga for pregnancy 🤰

As the water reduces one’s weight by up to 80%, movement is easier, pain is decreased and relief is felt..

According to a research study at the University of Idaho, water therapy can improve sleep patterns. As For pregnant women, this can have dramatic effects. A lot of times, sleep can become more difficult later in pregnancy, when it is most important.

Water creates a safe place to exercise where falling is not a risk. Gynecological & Neonatal Nursing states that exercising just one time per week in water can reduce back pain up to 50% compared to land-based exercise.

What is Hydrostatic pressure? 💦

It is the pressure applied by the water on an object, in this case a human body. The pressure is distributed equally around the body when submerged in water.

Improved circulation as a result of the massaging effect of water is found through water exercise.

The improved circulation combined with actual muscle contraction can assist with the return of blood back to the heart. This can help to minimise the risk of blood pooling.

Practicing yoga in hydrostatic pressure rehabs you’re joints and helps relieve joint pain, restoring mobility and increasing wider range of motion💦

💧Aqua Yoga is very beneficial for those who suffer from weak knees or pain in their knees. Certain postures help stabilize the knee and strengthen the muscle that support and hold the knee in proper alignment, such as the Vastus medialis, witch runs down the inner quadriceps muscle and helps to extend the leg. Yoga also helps stretch right muscles that can pull on the knee, mainly outer hips and hip flexors.

Cross Country Ski 💧

A movement to try out in the pool and it’s great for cardio, shoulders, hamstrings, quads, gluts and core

1) Keeping core engaged, step one leg forward and reach the opposite arm forward.

2) Jump as you alternate you’re opposite arms and legs forward and backwards in a Cross-country skiing motion

3) hands can be flat horizontal for more resistant, for less resistant turn hands vertical

4) Repeat for desired amount of time, start less and build up.

🌊 Water is the element connected to the second chakra, svadhistana, the prime mover of prana, life force in the chakra system. Being near water nourishes our sacral chakra,
witch is the center of creativity, pleasure, movement and emotions. We need to be moved by the currents of life, but not drown in them, so we can embrace the flow. Water is the element that makes things grow move and change and keeps life juicy and delicious. When this chakra is balanced we are able to experience pleasure, to move freely and access creative energy 💧
