Some good news!

RESEARCH BREAKTHROUGH 💡 News published by The University of Queensland reveals researchers have developed a promising new anti-inflammatory drug and, for the first time, used advanced imaging to watch its effects unfold inside the living brain, a breakthrough that could accelerate treatments for Parkinson’s disease.

The study showed the drug treatment, which targets part of the immune system called ‘inflammasomes’, reduced brain inflammation and prevented the disease from killing more neurons, therefore stopping its progression.

Shake It Up Australia CEO Vicki Miller says, “Inflammation in the brain has been a key focus area in Parkinson’s research for some time, and we are thrilled to see the progress made in developing effective treatments that not only address this symptom but actually halt the progression of the disease.

Slowing and stopping progression is the future of Parkinson’s research, and this breakthrough could accelerate future important discoveries.”

Our heartfelt thanks to the Mooloolaba Lion's club, who so generously donated $1000 to The Parkinson's Centre, to go towards equipment that will enhance the lives of the very special people we treat. Thank you especially to John Iffland who has become a very loved member of The Park and who invited me to speak last night about what we do and why it matters. And to Kerry Naumann the Mooloolaba Lion's president who hosted me and who presented this amazing gift.

I love having the opportunity to advocate for Parkinson's and believe that the earlier we can start treatment after diagnosis, the better the prognosis for each individual. So the more people and community groups I get to speak to, the more the word spreads.

It was a wonderful evening, spent with a small group of passionate, dedicated individuals, who work hard to create a better Sunshine Coast for us all. Kerry your awesome team is an incredible example to us all, I was impressed with the principles the Lions club is based on and what you do for the benefit of so many.

John you are a legend, thank you for honouring The Park and thank you for all you bring to our community.

Feeling very blessed.💛
