Believe it or not- Even practitioners can hurt their backs.

A few days ago I bent forward and my lower back grabbed so hard I wasn’t sure I could stand up.
Sitting and getting off the toilet were a challenge.
Most sudden back pain like this is a mechanical flare. It feels intense because your body tightens to protect you.

In the first few days I: • Avoided repeated forward bending
• Used ice and anti-inflammatories
• Moved gently in the direction that felt better
• Slowed my transitions and managed positions
I’m now on day 3 and it’s already shifting but I can also feel soreness from compensating and muscle guarding.
That’s normal.

Something important:
Treatment too early can sometimes feel worse. When a back is highly reactive, the priority is calming it down first, not aggressively working on it.
You can often self-manage if the pain stays in your lower back and you can still walk.
It’s time to seek assessment if: • Pain travels down the leg
• You notice numbness, tingling or weakness
• It’s not improving after several days
• It keeps flaring with very small movements
Most acute flares settle with calm, sensible management.

So we can’t treat them like they live in different rooms.
You can’t talk your way out of chronic tension if your nervous system still feels unsafe.
And you can’t massage away stress if the underlying thoughts and patterns driving it aren’t addressed.

When tension has been held for a long time, the body isn’t broken.
It’s protecting you.
Release comes when the nervous system feels safe enough to let go. 🤍

I know its been ages since I last posted. But I wanted to let everyone know, the move went really well.
My family and I are all settled in and absolutely loving our new life on the Sunshine Coast 🌞
I have started working at Sports & Spinal at their Baringa clinic. Its been a really positive experience for me, really enjoying it. If anyone comes to the sunshine coast and wants a treatment, I would love for you to come and see me !

Hey everyone 👋

I wanted to let everyone know that this is my last week that I will be living and working in Ballarat, Victoria. I just wanted to thank everyone that has followed me for the past 12 years, I will miss seeing you all. My family and I are moving to the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. once we are set up, I will be finding a place to keep working as a myotherapist. Often I have clients say, I thought I felt alright until you started poking around. 😄 often it means, if they had not of come in, it could have eventually turned into a problem, causing more pain/restriction and begin to affect other areas. Regular maintenance is always beneficial 👌
