Working as an artist didn’t come easy for me. I was born and raised in Brazil, and even though I was always creating, pursuing art as a career was seen as something only for “hippies” or people from wealthy families. A middle-class kid like me was expected to find a “proper career.” Probably something to do with the generation as I guess many countries shared this belief?
When I migrated to Australia 13 years ago, I worked across many industries — hospitality, retail, wellness — a bit of everything. But I always found peace in my creative practice. Nothing made me happier than expressing myself through art.
Then, against all odds, I took the plunge and decided to work with art. I was 33, had a newborn baby, no formal art education, and a heart full of dreams. It was terrifying, even though deep down I knew it was my calling. I had to rewire my mindset, turning limiting beliefs into curiosity and a hunger to learn more about myself and my craft. and the beautiful Darene from was such a positive influence during that time.
Through art, I’ve been healing. I’ve shown my inner child that yes — it is possible. And even better, I’m setting an example for my daughter that she too can do whatever she dreams of.
I am grateful, I am protected, and I am blessed.
And so are you. ✨ Big love, Lou
