There appears to be a real movement at the moment as families are choosing (needing) to remove their kids from the education system.

So many parents and professionals advocating for children, putting so much time and energy into supporting kids at school.

Sadly for majority the efforts aren’t getting results and children are in many cases feeling traumatised by school.

This isn’t because teachers don’t care, it’s because the system is broken and the current generation of kids are in my opinion here to create change and shake up the out-dated system.

The other aspect of this is the shift towards homeschooling, bringing families back together- it’s so heartwarming to see how many families are really enjoying this shift.

It’s not for everyone but for those who are choosing this, it can be quite liberating to be free of the system, constraints and frankly- banging heads against brick walls hoping for change.

If you’re interested but haven’t yet taken the step and have questions (I’m seeing a lot of parents in this spot at the moment) I’m here to help!

Pop your questions below or DM me and I’ll do a live or video soon to answer them as best I can.

Neurodivergence and homeschooling are often good friends! PDA + unschooling get along especially well.

You’re not stuck, there’s lots of ways to learn and attending school 5 days a week is just one of them, designed for some, not for all.

ADHDer’s gather round.

Do you have library shame? Were you shamed as a kid for losing library books or returning them late?

Does it haunt you now as the pattern repeats with your own family losing books?

That book borrowing anxiety is real.

It’s not an ADHD friendly process.

Tell me I’m not alone?

If sitting still and breathing feels hard… try movement first.

For many neurodivergent people, regulation doesn’t start with stillness.

Neurodivergent nervous systems often need input before they can access calm.

When the body feels busy, wired, or overwhelmed, asking it to “just breathe” can sometimes increase frustration rather than reduce it.

Cross-body movements are especially helpful.

Movements like:
• Marching and tapping opposite knee as the knee comes up
• Cross-body shoulder taps
• Walking with natural arm swings

When the brain feels more integrated, the nervous system can feel more organised, grounded and safe.

Through the lens of Polyvagal Theory, rhythm and coordinated movement can support a shift out of fight-or-flight and toward regulation.

So if stillness feels impossible, start with focused movement.

Notice how you feel after, i'd love to hear your experience!

If you’ve been using a strategy just to survive… to feel safe… to get through the day please don’t beat yourself up for it.

That strategy served a purpose.
It helped you cope when you needed it most.
It got you here.

And if you’re starting to notice that it doesn’t fit anymore, that you don’t want to keep doing it, that doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It means you’re growing.

We don’t need to shame the parts of us that protected us.

We can thank them… and gently choose something new.

Change is possible without self-criticism.
Growth is possible with compassion.

You can hold space for where you’ve been and where you’re going at the same time 💞

There’s been a lot of talk with school going back about the challenges for many kids in getting back into school.

Often the experience can be influenced heavily by the teacher and how the child connects with them. The willingness/capacity for the teacher to understand the child and work with them in a way that supports the child’s experience at school.

I hear from so many mums about the challenges for their kids and the energy required for parents advocating within the system.

I read this story about a young girl who is now thriving after coming out of the education system and I felt so happy for her.

When a child/young persons wellbeing is so heavily impacted it is really nice to see them be able to heal from that and find a new way forward that supports their wellbeing.

While this looks different for each child and family I thought it might be helpful to read and hear about some of the other ways forward, for those who feel a bit stuck in a cycle within the Education system.
