Jess Birth Story

22.02.25
It was 9pm she called me to let me know she was having mild contractions.
We all went to bed, I woke up a few times to check my phone, at 4 my brother in law called.
Waves were 5min apart and getting stronger. At 5am I arrived at their house.

Vini was at the door, Jess in the shower, she said the warm water was helping with the pain, I asked if she want some music and when was the last time she ate. We tried to fed her a smoothie and put some music one.
Her waves were pretty strong in her back and lately we understood that because baby was posterior.

Jess didn’t sleep for the past 2 nights with mild waves, so she was very tired and at 7am she asked to go to hospital, when we got there midwife checked her and recommend to go home for another couple of hours as she was still in early labour, we agreed that was the best plan...

Bliss Balls 😋

10-12 medjool dates
1/2 cup of peanut butter (ideally smooth and sugar free)
1/2 cup of vanilla or chocolate protein powder
if you add vanilla protein you can add 2 tablespoons spoons of cacao powder

Option
2 tablespoons of chia seeds
2 tablespoons of buckwheat seed

Method:
Take out the seeds of your dates and blend everything minus the buckwheat and chia seeds in the food processor, in a bowl add the seeds, mix with your hands and make lil and enjoy!

Lasts 7 days in your fridge or 3 months in the freezer.

There are studies showing that eating dates late in pregnancy can help shorten labor and reduce the need for induction… so have you eaten your dates today? 😋

3 non-pharmacological pain reliefs to use in birth: wood comb, water and movement.

What’s your favourite? What worked for you?

I used them all and my favourite it’s definitely water! Both my daughters born in the bath and I felt so much lither in water and my contractions in ease.

This week a friend (who is expecting her second baby) asked me what was something that made a big difference when having my second baby that I highly recommend for her…

I didn’t need to think about to answer MY VILLAGE 🤍
MY PEOPLE! My chosen ones to hold me while I was holding Ella.

With no doubt for me (that loves being around people and socialise) having my friends/family around when Ella was born to listen to me, cry and smile with me made my second postpartum lighter.
Motherhood can be a lonely journey (and it was when my first born) but this time I learned that I need to be held and cared and feel loved so I could and can be the best mum for my girls.

So if you are an expectant mother (first, second or third time) I cannot recommend enough for you to have your people around and know what will fulfil your cup so you can better look after your baby.

To my girls: THANK YOU!
I love you, I honour you and I am forever thankful for you 🤍

ps: there’s more people that hold me but I don’t have photos with them.

Love,
Gabi ✨

Part 4 - Ella’s birth story ✨

We had a beautiful 1,5h golden time before we cut her cord and I birthed her placenta squatting on the floor.

After Ella was born the nurse in charge came to talk to us, she was a “big baby” and they were worried about her blood sugar and wanted to keep her 24h in the there to monitor her.
Of course she was a big baby, we are big people and both born big, no thanks.
(we asked what it could be low blood sugar symptoms so we cold look at it at home just in case)

But also they wanted to keep us there because at the beginning of my pregnancy I tasted positive for STREP B (they tested me without asking me - because I was in hospital for my retroverted uterus) and when my labour started they supposed to offer me antibiotics to make sure Ella won’t get sick from it when coming out of my va**na.

I knew they could offer me this, so I did a lot of research on it and had decided that I wouldn’t take antibiotics (one of the great sources of searching I have done was the podcast The Great Birth Rebellion by dr and ) - here it was my decision and of course you have do to your own research and find out what it’s best for your family.

We had to sign a medical form and went home at 10pm to sleep in our bedroom and woke up at 5am with a very excited big sister wanting to meet her lil baby sister.

Ella meets her big sister, Amelie 🩵
and my heart was full!

thanks to my love, best support and my sis and bestie auntie in the World ✨
also thanks to Amelies godparents and my friends for life and Vini 🩵

Part 3 - Ella’s birth story ✨

At 12:30pm everything started again this time very intense, strong, it was like Ella and my body saying “ok we waited until now but we can’t wait anymore we are ready”

Thiago wasn’t 100%, but he was up and ready.

I got in the shower, I started to get loud, waves were very close and I could barely talk.
We call my midwife, she came to check on me and we decided to go to hospital.

We got at the hospital at 2:30pm, she (my midwife) was already filling the bath and waiting for me… my sister turned on the music and put my birth cards on the wall.

I set on the birth ball, couldn’t talk anymore, but I keep drinking water and breathing, in and out.

I wanted to get in the bath, I knew it would help me with the pain, the bath was ready and I hopped in at 3:30pm.

My midwife offered to release my water I said no (I told her during my pregnancy that I didn’t want to and repeat when she came to check on me at home, but she asked anyway 😡).

It was 5:23pm when I pushed Ella’s head and my water released with her head making her way to this World.
My next contraction didn’t come, so they pulled me out of the bath and while I stand up in the bath, her lil body slipped out of me ✨

Part 2 - Ella’s birth story ✨

I woke up around 11pm with very strong waves (I was sleeping with Amelie in her bedroom), to find out hubby got a gastro bug from one of the kids party we went and was vomiting since 9pm and at this point he was so sick, tired and weak he couldn’t stand up.

I thought “OMG, is this real?”
How I am going to have a baby with my biggest support down? But my waves were getting stronger and stronger, I had a cry, talked to him and at midnight we decided to call my sister (the plan was to have her there anyway).

She came straight away, my oldest daughter was still asleep, my sister arrived, helped me with massages and to get me in the shower, my waves were strong and 2/3min apart, Ella was definitely coming.

I called my midwife and she asked me to keep monitoring and if the waves kept strong to call again and meet at the hospital.

I cried again, hubby was definitely not in a shape to support me.

It was 2 am, my waves started to space out and stopped.

I didn’t understand at the moment, but my mind stopped my body and baby Ella decided to wait for her daddy to feel better.

I got dressed and went back to bed, contractions still coming but very light and apart.

My sister had a “nap” in the sofa, the Sun was up again, Monday (20/11/2023).

My daughter woke up, I made her breakfast, also eat breakfast myself, I wasn’t hungry, but I knew I will need the fuel later.
Her godparents took her to daycare and I went back to bed, I was tired, frustrated and of course anxious.

All the signs of labour were gone and I had no idea when they will be back.

Thiago was still in bed, recovering he had hydrolites, apples and was doing his best to get up on his feet and support me.

We both rested or at least tried as long as we could, and…

Birth of Ella (to be continued) ✨

Everything started on Saturday morning (18/11/2023) when I woke up to my plug on my un**es.

With Amelie birth I had such a “by the book” experience, lost my plug then my water released and my contractions started.

So, when I lost my plug in the morning I decided to keep going with the plans (Amelie had a 2 birthday parties this day) and wait for the next signs of my body and baby.

Nothing else happened until bed time and at this point I was already tired and started to feel a bit anxious, so we put Amelie down and I did a bit of stretching, wrote in my journal, meditate and also went to bed.

I woke up a few times during the night with some light contractions, but the morning came and nothing else just a very tired body (and mind) almost like a “sick” feeling (that can also be a sign of labour).

In the morning, felt that I need to release some emotions towards “leaving” my oldest daughter in the care of others while I was labouring my baby, so I did a meditation and wrote a few pages in the journal, such a powerful experience.

It was middle of Sunday morning and my head was messy, anxious and tired, my sister called and invited us for lunch, I decided to go, even if labour started everything was in the car and we could go from her house.
It was a way of being busy and not thinking about when the next stage of labour will start, we spend the whole day at her house, only coming home at night time.

There, we did some foot spa, massages and my waves were getting stronger.

We got home around 8pm and I decided to have a shower and got straight to bed because I felt that Ella was coming soon…

When I hold space in a Mother’s Blessing and I see women sharing love, kind, power, magic with each other, it makes me feel whole.

See this kind of ceremony coming back into mother’s life’s and the village getting stronger to create the sense of support we all need, it makes me feel so grateful and honoured to call this my job, my mission, my purpose ✨
