A beautiful Market Day adventure for the Little Bean Respite Team! ๐ŸŒป

Sophie, Lyla and Casey enjoyed a wonderful outing exploring the markets and the community. Along the way they stopped to listen to the talented local musicians and spent time appreciating some of the local artwork, soaking up the atmosphere of the market. ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽจ

Lyla spent some time practising her Orientation and Mobility skills, confidently navigating the environment and building her confidence on uneven ground, & independence. Casey enjoyed meeting some new furry friends (where else do you meet a dog disguised as a snail!?) & showed his determined spirit, riding his bike up the hill, fiercely independently, without any help, and he gave it everything! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿšฒ

Sophie enjoyed catching up with Lala again & made a couple of very special market choices of her own, selecting a colourful balloon from Mr Jโ€™s Balloons ๐ŸŽˆ and chose a potato slinky for lunch!

Later, Lyla and Louise visited the Caloundra Library to source some new high-contrast books to read, while Sophie and Casey enjoyed choosing some Easter craft items at the shops. ๐Ÿฃ

The afternoon wrapped up back at our Little Bean Respite base, where the fun continued with craft, dancing and relaxing baths before everyone headed home after a full and happy weekend/day.

We love these community days that support independence, choice, and social experiences for our amazing kids. ๐Ÿ’›

What a beautiful (and very rainy!) weekend at Little Bean Respite ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿ’›

Despite the wet weather, our Little Beans made the most of every moment. Casey loved visiting his animal friends in Maleny, enjoying special time outdoors between the showers and connecting with his furry mates. Thereโ€™s something so refreshing about the country air ~ even in the rain!

We also headed to Caloundra Library with Lyla and Casey, which was the perfect cosy escape from the weather. There were stories, quiet reading time, laughter and wonderful opportunities to strengthen friendships and build confidence in the community.

It was also a special weekend as we welcomed Mikaela to our Little Bean Respite Team! ๐ŸŒผ Mikaela is a nursing student and our newest team member. She is working alongside Nallissa while she gets to know our Little Beans, our routines and the heart of what we do.

๏ฟผ We have also recently welcomed Colleen, who is supporting one of our new teenagers with living skills on a Friday morning and Alistair on Saturday, out and about in the community. Colleen comes to us with many years of expertise as a special school teacher. Welcome Colleen, we are very grateful to have you on board! ๐ŸŒธ

As always, we focused on encouraging independence with personal care, fostering friendships and building confidence in a safe, nurturing environment.

Rain or shine, our Little Beans continue to grow, learn and support one another every step of the way ๐Ÿ’›

โœจ Lylaโ€™s Sunday Adventure ๐ŸŒฟ

Lyla enjoyed the beautiful blue sky day, exploring Mary Cairncross Park with Louise.
We wandered through the peaceful rainforest, taking in the fresh air, towering trees and all the beautiful sounds of nature. ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿฆœ

After our walk, we stopped for some yummy morning tea ~ the perfect way to recharge and relax together ๐Ÿง๐Ÿ“

On the way home, we detoured to Kawana Aquatic Centre for a swim in the Hydro pool (the perfect opportunity to practice our dressing skills!)
Lyla had a lovely time in the water catching up with an old friend from her old school ( who was showing Lyla how to float!) and meeting a new one ๐Ÿ’•

A day filled with nature, laughter &
connection ๐Ÿƒ๐ŸŒธ

Little Bean Respite This Week ๐ŸŒŸ

What a beautiful week with our Little Beans! ๐Ÿ’›

We danced our hearts out to all the latest hits (staff included!), thanks to Sophie & her dance moves she likes to share, Lyla enjoyed heading to the supermarket to shop for her baking ingredients like a pro ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ๐Ÿ›’ before we baked a (hopefully!) delicious chocolate cake and some yummy carrot cupcakes together.

Sophie loved her swim at the pool ๐ŸŠโ€โ™€๏ธ and our newest Little Bean, Mia, enjoyed exploring the forest walking track and discovering all the musical and light-up toys with our new highly skilled new team member Colleen, who is also leading a life skills program with a beautiful 16 year-old teenage girl on Fridays! โœจ๐ŸŽถ

Teddy had a wonderful time going fishing with Guriya and enjoyed a ride on the pedal boats to feed the fish of the Maroochy River ๐ŸŽฃ๐Ÿšค

James had a fantastic visit to the beach with Guriya, soaking up the fresh air and seaside
fun ๐ŸŒŠ

Eva gave Louise a violin theory lesson (we love seeing our young people step into the teacher role! ๐ŸŽป๐Ÿ‘), Eva always has a new song she is practising!, we had a puzzle competition which of course came with plenty of laughter and friendly rivalry ๐Ÿงฉ๐Ÿ˜„, and Eva also completed some absolutely beautiful 4Eva beaded keychains to sell โœจ

A very warm welcome to Mia & her family from Brisbane ~ we are so happy to have you join the Little Bean Family ๐Ÿ’•

Another week full of creativity, adventure, teamwork, new friends & special moments. ๐Ÿ’ซ

So incredibly proud of our teen bean Eva ๐ŸŒฑโœจ
Sheโ€™s officially launched her own little business making handmade keyrings and they are gorgeous!

Watching young people back themselves, take initiative and turn creativity into something real is just the best.
Go Eva! ๐Ÿ’›

if you would like to purchase keyrings from Evaโ€™s creative collection, please go to her page (like and follow!) and send her a DM โค๏ธ

Over the Christmas holiday period, our children participated in a variety of structured and recreational activities designed to support individual goals and NDIS outcomes ๐ŸŒŸ

Activities included guided walks at Buderim Forest Park ๐ŸŒฟ, water play at the river ๐Ÿ’ฆ, visits to Cotton Tree Aquatic Centre ๐ŸŠโ€โ™€๏ธ, exciting dodgem car rides ๐Ÿš—, and challenges at indoor climbing gyms ๐Ÿง—โ€โ™‚๏ธ. These experiences supported physical wellbeing ๐Ÿ’ช, motor skill development, confidence building ๐Ÿ˜Š, and safe community access ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ.

Creative and daily living skills were encouraged through baking our favourite banana bread ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿž, while bike riding ๐Ÿšฒ promoted coordination, independence, and participation in everyday routines.

As the holiday period comes to an end, we hope the transition back to school is smooth and positive for all children and families ๐ŸŽ’โœจ. We would also like to warmly welcome our new families joining us, we look forward to getting to know you and supporting your children throughout the year ahead.

A morning of cooking for Lyla, lots of role-play and a swim at our local Hydro pool.

Why do we cook at Little Bean Respite?โ€ฆcooking is a purposeful, fun activity that supports our children to develop skills for everyday life ๐Ÿ’›

Cooking assists children withโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ‘ Fine motor skills โ€“ grasp, release, bilateral integration and hand strength.
๐Ÿง  Cognitive skills ~ sequencing, attention, problem solving and following instructions
๐Ÿ‘ƒ Sensory processing ~ exposure to different textures, scents, tastes & temperatures.
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Communication opportunities & social participation ~ turn taking, requesting, choice making and shared engagement
๐Ÿก Activities of daily living ~ building independence in functional life skills

Each activity may look different for every child ๏ฟผwhether thatโ€™s pouring, stirring, selecting ingredients, using visual supports, or simply being present and engaged.

Cooking provides a meaningful context for learning, confidence building and inclusion supporting children to participate more fully in everyday life. Most importantly this activity is widely enjoyed! Lyla really enjoys presenting her family with her baking when she arrives home๐Ÿก
