Augmentative and Alternative Communication

October is AAC Awareness Month – Let’s Talk About Communication for All

October marks AAC Awareness Month, a global campaign dedicated to highlighting the importance of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). It's a chance to recognise and celebrate the many ways people express themselves, and to champion equal access to communication for everyone.

What is AAC?
AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication – the tools and techniques used by people who have difficulty with spoken language. This can include everything from picture cards and sign language to advanced speech-generating devices.

AAC supports people with a range of communication needs, including individuals with autism, cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, or those recovering from stroke or injury. Regardless of the method, AAC helps ensure that every voice is heard.

Whether it’s transferring from a wheelchair, using assistive devices, or navigating the community, we ensure environments are safe and accessible, and we provide respectful support where needed.

We focus on doing with, not doing for. Our goal is to build skills, confidence, and autonomy, so each person can live life on their own terms.
