💗 What a beautiful weekend at The Doonan! 💗

We were so grateful to be invited along as The Doonan hosted a fabulous fundraising event in support of the Breast Cancer Network Australia.

It was such a joy chatting with so many lovely guests and sharing a little about the work we do at the Buderim Private Hospital Cindy Mackenzie Breast Cancer Program — supporting locals right here on the Sunshine Coast through their breast cancer experience. 🌸

🎗️ 15 October – Global Lobular Breast Cancer Awareness Day 🎗️

As we reach the middle of National Breast Cancer Month, we’re shining a light on invasive lobular breast cancer (ILC) — the second most common type of breast cancer, yet one that remains significantly under-recognised.

🔬 Around 15% of women diagnosed with breast cancer have invasive lobular, making 15 October a powerful and symbolic date for awareness.

Unlike other types, invasive lobular breast cancer:
🔎 Can be harder to detect on standard mammograms
🌱 Often the atypical cells grow in a single-file pattern, without forming a distinct lump
🏥 May require additional imaging like ultrasound or MRI for clearer diagnosis
💬 Can cause subtle physical changes — thickening, swelling, or a “pulling” sensation
💡 Know the signs. Trust your body.

✔️ Get familiar with how your breasts look and feel
✔️ Report any changes — even small or unusual ones
✔️ Advocate for further imaging if something doesn’t feel right
✔️ Ask about your breast density — it can mask detection

💖 Today is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day 💖

At the Buderim Private Hospital Cindy Mackenzie Breast Cancer Program, we support people across the Sunshine Coast living with breast cancer, no matter where they are being treated. Today, we especially acknowledge those living with metastatic breast cancer (MBC)—a stage of breast cancer that is incurable but treatable.

We stand with those facing MBC, honour the memory of those we’ve lost, and raise awareness about the importance of care, understanding, and ongoing research.

🌸 Ways to support those living with MBC:

⚫ Offer a listening ear and understanding

⚫ Learn and share accurate information about MBC

⚫ Support local programs that provide care, guidance, and hope

Together, we can shine a light on metastatic breast cancer and remind our community that no one has to face it alone. 💗

Our THINK PINK Cocktail Party on Saturday was truly special. We were so grateful to have our amazing Ambassador, Mayor Rosanna Natoli, supporting the night, and to our courageous guest speaker, Katrina, who generously shared her personal story. Your strength and openness inspired everyone and reminded us why this work is so important.

A huge thank you also goes to the wonderful businesses who donated items for our raffles and auction. Your generosity helps us continue supporting people and families across the Sunshine Coast facing breast cancer.
