๐Ÿ’— What a beautiful weekend at The Doonan! ๐Ÿ’—

We were so grateful to be invited along as The Doonan hosted a fabulous fundraising event in support of the Breast Cancer Network Australia.

It was such a joy chatting with so many lovely guests and sharing a little about the work we do at the Buderim Private Hospital Cindy Mackenzie Breast Cancer Program โ€” supporting locals right here on the Sunshine Coast through their breast cancer experience. ๐ŸŒธ

A huge thank you to The Doonan team and everyone who came along with such warmth and generosity โ€” your support truly makes a difference. ๐Ÿ’•

๐ŸŽ—๏ธ 15 October โ€“ Global Lobular Breast Cancer Awareness Day ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ

As we reach the middle of National Breast Cancer Month, weโ€™re shining a light on invasive lobular breast cancer (ILC) โ€” the second most common type of breast cancer, yet one that remains significantly under-recognised.

๐Ÿ”ฌ Around 15% of women diagnosed with breast cancer have invasive lobular, making 15 October a powerful and symbolic date for awareness.

Unlike other types, invasive lobular breast cancer:
๐Ÿ”Ž Can be harder to detect on standard mammograms
๐ŸŒฑ Often the atypical cells grow in a single-file pattern, without forming a distinct lump
๐Ÿฅ May require additional imaging like ultrasound or MRI for clearer diagnosis
๐Ÿ’ฌ Can cause subtle physical changes โ€” thickening, swelling, or a โ€œpullingโ€ sensation
๐Ÿ’ก Know the signs. Trust your body.

โœ”๏ธ Get familiar with how your breasts look and feel
โœ”๏ธ Report any changes โ€” even small or unusual ones
โœ”๏ธ Advocate for further imaging if something doesnโ€™t feel right
โœ”๏ธ Ask about your breast density โ€” it can mask detection

At the Buderim Private Hospital Cindy Mackenzie Breast Cancer Program, weโ€™re here to support every person facing breast cancer โ€” including those navigating the complexities of lobular breast cancer, where symptoms can be easy to miss and early diagnosis is critical.

We proudly acknowledge the incredible work of Lobular Breast Cancer Australia and New Zealand: Knowledge and Kindness, an online science-based community committed to raising awareness and supporting those affected.

Letโ€™s keep the conversation going, raise awareness, and support Sunshine Coasters when they need it most. ๐Ÿ’–

๐Ÿ’– Today is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day ๐Ÿ’–

At the Buderim Private Hospital Cindy Mackenzie Breast Cancer Program, we support people across the Sunshine Coast living with breast cancer, no matter where they are being treated. Today, we especially acknowledge those living with metastatic breast cancer (MBC)โ€”a stage of breast cancer that is incurable but treatable.

We stand with those facing MBC, honour the memory of those weโ€™ve lost, and raise awareness about the importance of care, understanding, and ongoing research.

๐ŸŒธ Ways to support those living with MBC:

โšซ Offer a listening ear and understanding

โšซ Learn and share accurate information about MBC

โšซ Support local programs that provide care, guidance, and hope

Together, we can shine a light on metastatic breast cancer and remind our community that no one has to face it alone. ๐Ÿ’—

๐Ÿ’– A night full of heart, hope, and community! ๐Ÿ’–

Our THINK PINK Cocktail Party on Saturday was truly special. We were so grateful to have our amazing Ambassador, Mayor Rosanna Natoli, supporting the night, and to our courageous guest speaker, Katrina, who generously shared her personal story. Your strength and openness inspired everyone and reminded us why this work is so important.

A huge thank you also goes to the wonderful businesses who donated items for our raffles and auction. Your generosity helps us continue supporting people and families across the Sunshine Coast facing breast cancer.

To everyone who attended, laughed, shared, and celebrated with usโ€”you are helping make a real difference. ๐Ÿ’— Together, we are stronger, and together, we bring hope.

๐Ÿ’– Paddling Towards Strength, Friendship & Giving Back ๐Ÿ’–

Dragon Boat racing isnโ€™t just a sportโ€”itโ€™s a journey of recovery, resilience, and connection for people whoโ€™ve faced breast cancer. ๐ŸŒŠ

The incredible Dragons Abreast Sunshine Coast community not only paddles together for wellbeing and camaraderie but also gives back! Their upcoming Fundraising Morning Tea will see 50% of funds raised supporting the Buderim Private Hospital Cindy Mackenzie Breast Cancer Program, helping local people on their breast cancer journey.

Theyโ€™d love for you to join them at their Morning Teaโ€”come along, enjoy a cuppa, meet the team, and support our program. โ˜•๐Ÿ’ž

Every stroke, every cheer, and every donation makes a real difference. Thank you, Dragons Abreast, for showing us that recovery, friendship, and generosity go hand in hand. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ‘ฏโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’–

โ€œThere is hope, there is help, and you will not have to walk this journey by yourself.โ€ - Amy

Meet Amy, one of Buderim Private Hospitalโ€™s dedicated breast care nurses, whose compassion and expertise helps to make a difference for our patients navigating treatment and recovery after a breast cancer diagnosis.

Our Q & A with Amy (pictured right) is a powerful reminder of the community of support that is available, which extends well beyond clinical care to practical support offered through our Cindy Mackenzie Breast Cancer Program.

๐ŸŽ€ Today is International Flat Day ๐ŸŽ€

We honour and celebrate the strength, courage, and choice of individuals who embrace life after mastectomy without reconstruction. Going flat is a powerful, valid, and beautiful decision โ€” and today we stand in solidarity with those who choose it.

At the Buderim Private Hospital Cindy Mackenzie Breast Cancer Program, we support every journey and every body. Whether you go flat, choose reconstruction, or are still deciding โ€” your story matters, your voice matters, and you matter.

๐Ÿ’— Letโ€™s continue to raise awareness, foster understanding, and celebrate body autonomy in breast cancer recovery.
