SUNSHINE COAST LOCAL DISASTER MANAGEMENT GROUP MOVES TO ALERT STATUS
3pm Saturday 1 March 2025
In response to Tropical Cyclone Alfred, which is currently positioned approximately 560km East-Northeast of Rockhampton in the Coral Sea, the Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management Group has moved to an ALERT Status.
The decision to move to ALERT enhances the Sunshine Coast Council’s situational awareness and allows for greater collaboration with local and state government partners to ensure operational readiness, should the group be required to respond to a severe weather event over the coming days and week, on behalf of the community.
Please be aware of dangerous surf and water conditions. Strong winds and large waves are expected to affect the Sunshine Coast Region in the coming week, creating hazardous conditions. We urge everyone to stay safe and avoid entering the water if conditions are dangerous.
We also encourage the community to continue preparing for severe weather, here are some steps you can take to be prepare you and your family:

• Create an Emergency Plan: Have a plan in place for your family, including an emergency meeting place and contact information. https://www.getready.qld.gov.au/get-prepared
