About Robotic Knee Replacement Surgery
Knee replacement surgery has evolved over the years in striving to improve outcomes for patients. The latest advancement has been the development of Robotic technology being applied to Knee Replacement Surgery.
Dr Maclean is excited to announce that he will now able to offer this Robot Assisted Knee Replacement Surgery on the Sunshine Coast.
This is impressive technology in which the robot software can combine pre-operative medical imaging with surgeon led intra-operative bone mapping and soft tissue evaluation. The latter provides information on that personโs natural knee motion.
This data is then used in developing an individualised surgical plan, before any bony cuts are made.
The robotic arm also assists in the conduct of the surgery, with precision and accuracy in implementing the plan, ensuring optimal placement of the prosthesis.
During the surgery further information is collected providing feedback on soft tissue balance and knee motion. Use of the robot can then assist in dynamically fine tuning the procedure, if required.
It should be stressed that this robot is a tool and the surgeon is still making the important decisions. This is where experience is an advantage.
It is envisaged that this technology will further improve peopleโs satisfaction with their outcome in knee replacement surgery.
It is also anticipated that it will lead to greater safety in the ex*****on of the surgery, rapid recovery, and a more natural feel when returning to activity.
