The Bike Chair

The Bike Chair is a custom designed tricycle for people who have limited mobility. We had enjoyed walks by the sea, through parks and beside rivers. Bill Forward

Several years ago we felt a deep sense of loss as we noticed that my wife was losing her ability to walk. Having lived and travelled in Asia I remembered what people had done to bicycles to make food carriers or trishaws. I thought that we could modify a bike to enable us to continue these outings
I wanted the passenger seat in front of me so that we could see and talk about the same things together and then as her disability progressed, I would be able to see if she was in some difficulty or another. The first bike I had made was unstable and dangerous
so I took the concept to my good friend, Ken, who
immediately spotted the problems. With his skill and
knowledge we were able to produce the original Bike
Chair. We have developed it further to ensure safety and comfort. We can put the Bikechair in our box trailer to visit nearby beaches and also on a rack behind our Coaster RV when we travel to enjoy special times
It is a wonderfully liberating experience to be able to get out again together and cycle along bike paths everywhere. I get the exercise I need to stay healthy and my wife loves to meet and greet people along the way.

Dear Bike Chair supporters, we have an update for you…

We have officially entered into phase #3 of our timeline, meaning we are one step closer to revealing our sample Bike Chair with all of it’s features, price and how you can order one! Thank-you to our manufacturer for your enthusiasm throughout the design process and your ongoing attention to every detail.

Stay tuned, as we hope to reveal photos and videos of the Bike Chair sample once it arrives, and then let you know how you can pre-order one!

Once again, your support means the world to us. We are working hard to get this product into your hands ASAP, so your family can start enjoying the fun of cycling with friends and family.

Hi again our wonderful Bike Chair family, we just wanted to give a quick personal update.
Today would have been Glad’s birthday, but last October, our beloved Glad left this world. Glad was the reason the Bike Chair was first made, as her husband Bill Forward wanted a way to continue to enjoy the outdoors with his wife after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and slowly lost her mobility. The Bike Chair featured throughout Glad’s Celebration Service, as it played such a beautiful role for our family in the last decades of her life. Glad’s passing has been a necessary reminder to all of us here at the Bike Chair, to keep working hard to get this product out to families eager to be active outside.

Hi friends of the Bike Chair!
Thank you for dropping by our page, we love having you here.
If you’ve been journeying with us over the past few years, you would know that we’ve hit many hurdles in trying to get the Bike Chair manufactured and available to the public. However, with a full team now dedicated to producing this product, we are making significant progress. Our goal is to have the Bike Chair available for purchase in Australia and North America by late 2023!

If this is something that excites you and interests you, here’s a few things to look out for:
1. Check in regularly with us on Facebook to stay updated and share in the fun! We’ll post updates as well as videos along the way.
2. Look out for the launch of our crowd funding campaign, as we raise funds for the first shipment from our manufacture.

Good afternoon wonderful supporters of The Bike Chair,

We hope you are all remaining healthy and enjoying some of the privileges of restrictions being eased.
As many of you are probably aware, the recent Covid 19 crisis has seen an increased for bicycles around the world and there is now an extreme shortage of bicycle and bicycle parts available for purchase. While we are excited to be in negotiation with a leading United States bicycle company, they are also experiencing this shortage from their suppliers resulting in significant challenges for bicycle production. In summary, Covid 19 has once again slowed the process of getting The Bikechair into production.

However, we will endeavour to continue production discussions and forward planning, but all plans for the physical distribution of the Bike Chair are being delayed until international borders and trading can resume as normal.

We wanted to thank you, our followers, for your ongoing patience with The Bike Chair. We can completely empathise with your disappointment at not being provided answers regarding the price of our product and its availability. The biggest reason that The Bike Chair has taken so long to be produced is because we want our product to be as affordable and accessible to families as possible, which means it must be mass produced in order to save our customers’ costs. We are just as frustrated as you are that this has taken years!

Thank you again for your continued patience and for journeying with us through Covid 19. We will continue to update you on Facebook as progress occurs.

The current situation with Covid 19 has meant that the Bike Chair progress has been put on hold due to government restrictions, both in Australia and overseas.

We look forward to being able to provide a more detailed progress update in future once the current circumstances have calmed.

The Bike Chair team is still working tirelessly behind the scenes to get this product on the market. Currently we are pursuing a bike frame manufacture in Taiwan in order to keep the costs down for our customers.

Hi Bike Chair supporters!

We are still working on the design and manufacture of The Bikechair and haven’t been able to sell them in any country yet. Prices are still to be determined. Since my grandfather built the very first Bikechair for my grandmother (not realising the amount of interest it would bring) we have been trying to get them out to people such as yourself.

Unfortunately, the process of getting them designed and built for sale has been slower than we thought, but we are making progress!
