Coastal Health and Rehab

Coastal Health and Rehab Rehabilitation specialists who identify the root cause of people's pain & dysfunction to achieve the goal of becoming pain free and increasing performance

Coastal Health & Rehab was created as we felt the standard of healthcare was not anywhere near the level it should be. Too many people have had experiences with various health professionals where they have not been satisfied with the service they were given. Whether that be poor advice, no symptom relief following treatment, or the most common being symptom relief that is short lived and only last 24-48 hours. Our aim is to increase the standard of healthcare and provide long last symptom relief rather than the oversupply of short term results and quick fixes that flood the industry.

WORKING FROM HOME TIPS
-
Struggling to get things done at home?
-
Jess is a veteran at Lockdowns as she came from Victoria at the start of the year. So here are her top tips.
-
1) Find a designated work area & stick to it! This will help teach your brain when you are in this space you are there to work.
-
2) Set working hours as if you were in the office or at uni.
-
3) Incorporate regalar breaks (perfect time to get some exercise in). Research has shown that working for about 50 min with a 20min break is the best ratio for productivity.
-
4) Keep hydrated and get fresh air as often as possible. We are super lucky to live in such an amazing place with unreal weather, take advantage!
-
5) Lastly, as tempting as it may be to stay in your pyjamas all day...you will be more productive if you get dressed.
-
They are my top tips to help me stay productiveπŸ’ͺ🏽
-
Don't forget we are still open throughout the lockdown so if you wanting to get on top of those injuries or niggles now is the best time....while you have nothing but time!

HIP BURSITIS/ TROCHANTERIC BURSITIS
-
Another common bursitis we often see in the clinic is hip bursitis, which can also be called Trochanteric bursitis.
-
As you'll hopefully be picking up by now, the first step to bursitis rehab is to let the bursa recover. So this means finding ways to not p**s it off! For the shoulder this meant avoiding overhead activity, for the hips this means don't let your leg go past your midline.
-
Sounds easy right?
-
Well this means no crossing your legs!
-
Enjoy sleeping on your side with a leg out in front? Thats crossing the midline. However, to avoid this just pop a pillow under your leg.
-
Once you allow some time for the bursa to recover you can return to sitting or sleeping however you like.
-
Then you want to add in some strength exercises to the tissues surrounding the hip.
-
How many times a day do you cross your legs unintentially? 😬

SHOULDER BURSITIS = SHOULDER IMPINGMENT + ROTATOR CUFF TENDINOPATHY
-
Subacromial bursitis is the most common type of shoulder bursitis which is commonly caused by shoulder impingement.
-
This impingement occurs when the space becomes too narrow to accommodate the tendons and the inflamed bursa. Therefore, every time these structures move, they are pinched.
-
This can cause tendinitis of the rotator cuff tendons as they become irritated, damaged or worn down.
-
As previously mentioned, the first step is to reduce inflammation and avoid further irritation of the bursa.
-
The next stage is to ensure full ROM and then complete strength exercises to regain what was lost.
-
The next post will show some exercises to complete during your rehab.
