3 lunchbox combos to start the school year fresh ✨

Senior dietitian Stacey has some tips for healthy, and popular, lunchboxes without the stress (link in comments 👇).

You don’t need fancy recipes, just a balance of foods that will keep kids satisfied.

🥪 Wholegrain carbohydrates Eg. multigrain bread, wraps, oats, dinner leftovers with potato, rice, pasta.
🥚Protein foods that are going to keep kids full. Eg. shredded chicken breast, boiled eggs, hummus.
🥛Dairy eg, full fat milk poppers, cheese, full fat yoghurts.
🍇Fruits and vegetables. Apples, bananas, berries, cucumbers, carrots can be colourful and easy options. (Chop them up into bite-sized pieces to make them more appealing to young ones).

Is anyone else melting in this heat? 🫠

Please take care over the coming days to avoid heat related illness. There’s a low intensity heatwave impacting the Sunshine Coast and Gympie areas.

To beat the heat, remember to:
💧drink water (between 6-8 glasses each day)
👕wear light, loose cotton clothes
🏃‍♀️avoid heavy exercise during the hottest parts of the day
❄️stay in air conditioning if available, or a find a cool public place like a library
🧊use wet towels or ice packs to cool down or place your feet in cold water
🧘‍♀️slow down and take it easy
🥵avoid hot, closed spaces
☀️be sun safe. Wear a hat and sunglasses, keep out of the sun between 10am and 2pm, wear long sleeves and light clothing and apply sunscreen every two hours.

Look out for these signs of heat-related illness:
• Dizziness
• Headaches
• Nausea or vomiting
• Fainting
• Bright or dark urine
• Confusion or slurred speech
• Rapid pulse
• Diarrhoea
• Loss of consciousness.

If you or anyone else shows signs of heat-related illness, call 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84) for advice, or visit your doctor. If it is an emergency, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Meet Dr Craig 🤝

As our Director of Haematology, Dr Craig is at the helm of treatment and care for blood cancer patients in our region.

Driven by a genuine passion for haematology, he’s always looking for the next way to support our patients. He runs clinical trials of cutting-edge therapies, conducts blood cancer research and teaches the next generation of doctors.

One of his most recent achievements was launching our new stem cell transplant service.

What makes him most proud? Knowing patients can access world-class care locally, without the added burden of travelling to major cities. 🌴

Dr Craig was drawn to haematology for its blend of medical science and hands-on clinical care. And while his work is grounded in science, his personal philosophy is simple and inspiring: “Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will. Don’t doubt yourself - turn vision into reality.”

Meet leukaemia battler Adele and haematology nurse and blood donor Julia – an inspiring duo at the Adem Crosby Centre. 🥰

Adele has relied on more than 100 blood transfusions throughout her life.

“I used to be a donor myself when I lived in Gladstone, and I’ve always encouraged others to give. It’s simple, it’s easy, and it changes lives,” Adele said.

And knowing all too well how precious blood supplies are, nurse Julia rolls up her sleeve to help keep people like Adele healthy and smiling.

Having cared for blood cancer patients for more than 25 years, Julia sees firsthand how vital regular blood donations are – not just in emergencies, but every day.

“It’s a 24/7, 365 day a year necessity. Every time someone donates, they’re giving another person more time with their family, friends, and loved ones.

“It’s a really generous thing to do with your time and body, but the Lifeblood team makes it as easy and simple as possible.”

Hi there, Ren 👋

In 2025, Ally welcomed her beautiful baby boy, Ren, through Queensland’s first government-funded homebirth program with Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH), supported by our incredible Birawan Midwifery Group Practice team, and WHAT an amazing journey it was!

Ren arrived safely at home via waterbirth on 15 November at 11:33pm, weighing 3.5kg.

“From pregnancy through to birth, I felt deeply supported, listened to, and respected every step of the way. The continuity of care and trust built with my midwife Mikaila, allowed me to feel calm, informed, and confident going into birth.”

And the care didn’t stop there! Ally described the postpartum support as “next level”, with ongoing home visits, guidance as a first-time mum, support with feeding, emotional wellbeing and recovery, plus the reassurance of a 24/7 phone line during those early days.

We’re so grateful to be able to support families through such powerful, life-changing moments, and to keep learning from your experiences as we continue to grow and improve our services.

Thank you, Ally, for trusting us with your journey, and welcome to the Coast, little Ren 🫶

Anyone over the age of 2 can access these services Monday – Saturday from 10am – 6pm, and if your needs go beyond the clinic confines, the team will refer you to the right place.

And the best part? All services are free, even if you don’t have a Medicare card.
