This is Lonni, and she just shaved her hair for cancer. Again!

“I last did it when I was 15! I already knew at that stage that I wanted to be a nurse and I felt this need to do something to support people on this journey,”

In her position in medical flow, Lonni comes across blood cancer patients a fair bit, and her empathy for their challenges extended into action this year, where she felt that shaving her hair to raise money was the least she could do to support them in their journey.

Lonni, Maddi and Aaron’s enormous efforts through the World’s Greatest Shave have resulted in generous funds that will go towards blood cancer care and research. ❤️

It’s Administrative Professionals Day today! And this wonderful administrative professional is this week’s Human of Health.

Hi Sam 👋 What do you do?

“I’m a Rugby League Referee… and a Beautician. I also chase after our 2-year-old son, whilst growing his soon to be little sister.” 🏉

No, we mean for work, as an administration professional?

“Oh! An Executive Support Officer (ESO). I provide confidential and administrative support to an Executive director. Managing calendars, priorities, all the things in the background to keep the day-to-day running smoothly.”

Sam is an absolute delight to work with because she really thrives on the fast pace and variety that are quintessential of an ESO role, but is equally skilled in the art of staying organised and calm under pressure, while going with the flow and keeping her “sense of humour still intact!”

When asked what keeps Sam here, she cites the people, the purpose, and her mortgage.

Thank you for always keeping us on track, on time, and smiling Sam. 💛

50 years ago, in the year 1976, Viking 1 landed on Mars, the Apple Computer was founded in a garage, Dancing Queen by Abba was top of the charts and Anne started her career with Queensland Health! 🚀

Even though it was half a century ago now, Anne still remembers her first day very clearly, perhaps because she accidentally got the tablecloth all tangled up in the floor polisher!

Anne moved from Gladstone Health to Nambour General Hospital where she enjoyed MANY years. Reluctantly, she agreed to move to Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) when it opened, but ultimately loved this move as she’s learned a lot of new skills and now manages the Environmental Services team, leading a workforce of around 400 staff!

Thank you for dedicating your ENTIRE career to Queensland Health, Anne. 💙

“Oh, you’ve got your hands full!”

“Rather you than me!”

Apparently, these are things you should never say to a twin parent. ☝️

And this is why our parents of multiples SO appreciate having a space to connect with other parents who just get it.

Our Twins Plus program provides parents of multiples under 6 months with a “sense of community, a sense of understanding, solidarity, especially in the early days when you never feel like you’re never going to have a normal life again.”

“My uncle was a previous patient on the ward, so it was a lovely way to honour his memory and everything that he went through.”

Sunshine Coast Health Registered Nurse Madi participated in The World’s Greatest Shave this year in support of her blood cancer patients, while contributing to national efforts to raise funds for blood cancer care and support.

Patients, family, friends and colleagues took turns plaiting, cutting and shaving her hair, measuring in at 47cm and roughly 250 grams, which has been donated to create wigs for people going through cancer treatment.

“I am so lucky to work on such a great ward where I can continue to care for and support my awesome patients in any way that I can.”

No, Madi, we’re so lucky to have YOU. 💛
