After 10 years of teaching I became frustrated with the lack of time I could spend on student emotional and mental wellbeing. There were so many children who needed this support in order to be able to learn, yet there was little time or resources in an already crowded curriculum. I had always loved art and had unconsciously used it as a healing tool in my personal life. I would turn to my creative place for comfort and to connect with my inner self. When I realized how art had benefited me, I naturally wanted to share this with others and began my career in Art Therapy. Since then I moved states and became a mother of two. This change has accelerated my drive to help others, both children and women. I run wellbeing programs for children and mothers, incorporating Art therapy, meditation and dance/movement.
The power of Art Therapy is immeasurable. When we are unable to quantify our feelings in words, Art Therapy offers a place of comfort, freedom and expression. It is a safe and non-confrontational way to express what is within. Meditation offers the time which is so often lacking in today's society, to connect to our inner self. When we do this regularly we begin to listen to what truly defines us, brings us pleasure and purpose. Focusing on our breath and stilling the body and mind can benefit our health, happiness and relationships. The Nia Technique is a fusion of dance arts, the healing arts and martial arts. The focus is on moving in your body’s way and experiencing the joy of movement.
