🩺 Myth Busting Monday! 🩺
Myth: “You shouldn’t put cling film on a burn — it’ll make it worse.”

BUSTED! ✅
Cling film is actually first aid gold for burns. It protects the burn from dirt and bacteria, keeps it cool, and helps reduce pain until professional care is available. Just remember
to use a clean sheet, loosely wrap, and never stick it directly to the burn! ( this means don’t press or tape loose wrapping is the key!)

💡 Pro Tip: Always cool the burn under running water for 20 minutes first — cling film is the finishing touch, not the first step.

🫀 Mannikin of the Week – Meet “Barry the Breather”

This week’s training superstar is Barry.

Barry has survived:
✔ 427 chest compressions
✔ 89 slightly awkward rescue breaths
✔ Someone checking his pulse on his ear
✔ And being called “mate” at least 12 times

But Barry doesn’t mind… because every practice means someone is one step closer to saving a real life.

💡 First Aid Tip of the Week:
When doing CPR on an adult, push hard and fast in the centre of the chest – about 100–120 compressions per minute and at least 5cm deep.

Your mannikin might be plastic… but the skills you learn are very real.

🚫 MYTH BUSTING MONDAY 🚫
“You can’t use a defibrillator on a wet surface.”

💦 MYTH!

Using an AED poolside or on wet ground is NOT dangerous — if you follow basic safety steps.

According to the Australian Resuscitation Council, the shock from a defibrillator travels between the pads through the chest, not into the surrounding ground.

⚡ The electricity:
✔️ Flows from pad to pad
✔️ Takes the path of least resistance
✔️ Lasts only milliseconds
✔️ Does NOT electrify the area around the patient

✅ What you DO need to do:

• Remove the person from the water
• Quickly dry the chest
• Make sure no one is touching the patient
• Loudly say: “Stand clear!”

🛟 The real risk?

Touching the patient during shock — not the wet concrete.

Don’t let fear delay defibrillation. Early CPR + early defib saves lives.
