Spring is well and truly upon us. Need some tips to inspire communication?
1. Flower Description Game 🌸
Activity: Show your child pictures of different flowers or take a walk outside to see real ones. Ask them to describe the flowers using adjectives (color, size, shape).
Target Skills: Descriptive language, expanding vocabulary.
Example: What colour is the flower?” “Is the flower tall or short?” “How does it smell?”
2. Garden Sequencing Activity 🌱
Activity: Create a sequence of events related to planting a garden. Use picture cards or drawings and have your child put them in the correct order.
Target Skills: Sequencing, storytelling, logical thinking.
Example: “First, we dig the hole. Then, we plant the seed. Finally, we water the plant.”
3. Spring-Themed “Wh” Questions 🦋
Activity: While playing outside or looking at spring-related pictures, ask your child "Wh" questions about springtime.
Target Skills: Answering “Wh” questions, comprehension.
Example Questions: “What do butterflies eat?” “Where do flowers grow?” “Why do we wear sunglasses in the spring?”
4. Butterfly Life Cycle Story 🦋
Activity: Teach your child about the butterfly’s life cycle using pictures or a craft. Then, have them retell the story of the butterfly’s transformation.
Target Skills: Narrative skills, sequencing, retelling.
Example: “First, the butterfly is an egg. Then, it becomes a caterpillar. Next, it forms a chrysalis. Finally, it turns into a butterfly.”
5. Spring Scavenger Hunt 🌿
