Over 75 & driving?

Did you know you In Queensland, drivers aged 75 and over are legally required to carry a valid Medical Certificate for Motor Vehicle Driver (Form F3712) whenever they drive.

This requirement applies regardless of whether you have a medical condition. The certificate must be renewed annually and is typically valid for 13 months.

Key Requirements for Drivers Aged 75 and Over:
• Medical Certificate: Obtain a Medical Certificate for Motor Vehicle Driver (Form F3712) from your doctor.

This form includes two parts:
Part 1: Completed by you.
Part 2: Completed by your doctor following a medical assessment. You can download the form from the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads website or request a copy from your doctor.

• Carrying the Certificate: Always carry the valid medical certificate when driving. Failure to do so can result in a fine.
• Renewal: Renew the certificate annually. You may receive a reminder approximately six weeks before the certificate's expiry date
• Licence Conditions: If your doctor identifies any medical conditions affecting your ability to drive, they may impose specific conditions on your licence. You must comply with these conditions to remain legally permitted to drive .
Medical Assessments and Conditions
During your medical assessment, your doctor will evaluate various factors, including:
• Vision: Ensuring adequate visual acuity for safe driving.
• Cognitive Function: Assessing memory, attention, and decision-making abilities.
• Physical Health: Evaluating mobility, strength, and coordination
• Medical History: Reviewing any existing or past medical conditions that could impact driving.

If any issues are identified, your doctor may recommend additional assessments, such as an occupational therapy driving assessment, or suggest modifications to your driving habits.
Important Notes
• No Age Limit for Driving: There is no maximum age for holding a driver's licence in Queensland. The key factor is your ability to drive safely.
• Driving Restrictions: If your doctor determines that you are not fit to drive, they may advise against driving or recommend restrictions on your licence. It's essential to follow these medical recommendations to ensure your safety and compliance with the law.

• Insurance Considerations: Insurance companies may require proof of a valid medical certificate before providing coverage. It's advisable to check with your insurer to understand their specific requirements.

Bowel cancer in young people is an increasingly recognised problem, with Australia having some of the highest rates globally.
Globally there is a 266% increase in bowel cancer for 15-24 year olds.
Common symptoms of bowel cancer include changes in bowel habits (diarrhea, constipation), re**al bleeding, abdominal pain, and anemia.
Potential risk factors include a family history of bowel cancer, genetics, obesity, smoking, alcohol consumption, and unhealthy diet.
