First Nations peoples have been observing, experimenting, and innovating for thousands of years.

“Our people have been doing STEM for before it was called STEM. And still to this day, we're the oldest living culture. We are the oldest, practising form of social science.” – A/Prof Corey Tutt OAM

We're proud to join forces with DeadlyScience to bring you special STEM stories for National Science Week. Together, we've created The Yarn, a space to share the wisdom and brilliance of our mob's scientists and leaders. Join us as we celebrate Indigenous knowledge and inspire the next generation.

This NAIDOC Week, we celebrate the theme "Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud" alongside Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We're committed to closing the health gap for First Nations people. Through our network, we work with AMS and ACCHOs to deliver culturally safe health information and resources.

Let's empower communities and keep the fire burning for better health for our mob.

National Reconciliation Week is an important time for all Australians to reflect on our shared histories, cultures, and the ongoing journey towards reconciliation. The theme for 2024, Now More Than Ever, is a powerful reminder that the fight for justice and equality for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continues.

This week, we had the privilege of hearing from our Aboriginal Health Television Advisory Board on the question - "Now more than ever, what does reconciliation mean to you?".

Professor Chris Lawrence's response resonates strongly with the theme of National Reconciliation Week, highlighting the importance of education and employment opportunities for Aboriginal communities.

“Reconciliation is vital for the future of our young Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people. The pressures of living costs and home ownership, rental increases in Australia, means there’s a lot more at stake for the next generation of young people. We can’t afford to have another generation of our people struggle with poverty, poor health and homelessness. Now is the time to encourage more education and employment opportunities.
Aboriginal & Torres Strait people know who we are and where we come from. It’s in our DNA! It doesn’t matter what you do or even if you become an astronaut and go into space, you’ll always be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander!”

In recognition of NAIDOC week, we had the pleasure of facilitating a thought-provoking discussion about The Voice referendum with Mediabrands Australia. Hosted by our co-founder, Dr. Norman Swan, this exclusive interview with The Voice to Parliament Handbook authors, Thomas Mayo and Kerry O'Brien, aimed to enlighten and educate us about this historic event and its profound significance for all Australians. The launch of their book is timed as interest and discussion in the referendum builds and acts as a clear and simple guide for the millions of Australians supporting the Uluru Statement from the Heart, helping them better understand what a Voice to Parliament truly means.

The discussion provided valuable insights on how to actively participate in this movement and spark impactful conversations with friends and family. It's not just about raising awareness; it's about empowering every Australian to play a role in shaping the future of our nation.

How to get involved:

In recognition of Reconciliation Week, we were incredibly proud to have hosted an impactful community engagement morning in partnership with the IMAA that took us through the heart of Redfern, providing an immersive cultural experience with some of the most significant Aboriginal community organisations.

Led by our Head of Aboriginal Health TV, Jake Thomson, we had the opportunity to speak with leaders of these organisations and learn about the vital work they do in supporting Redfern’s First Nations people. The morning ended with lunch at Café Dreaming, a First Nations-owned café, where we enjoyed a delicious spread of fresh and indigenous-inspired food.

We feel privileged to bring our partners closer to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Redfern, facilitating the sharing of their stories, learning and working to create real change for the next generation.

This week the Tonic Media Network team heard from Jake Thomson, Wiradjuri man and Head of Aboriginal Health TV, about what January 26 means to him and his family. We believe it's important for all Australians to acknowledge the injustices that have taken place against the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and make sure that we are continually learning so we can move forward together.

As proud custodians of Aboriginal Health TV, we believe in the great strength, resilience and positive contribution that Aboriginal and Torres Strait people make in our lives and the lives of all Australians.

"I encourage all Australians to learn the history of Aboriginal people, which is Australia’s history. This will hopefully allow you to begin to understand why our people do not celebrate Jan 26 as 'Australia Day’.”

How deadly is this?? 🎨😍

The stairs in Barry Street, Yeppoon, are now beautifully decorated with phrases in the local Darumbal language, as well as their pronunciation and English translations.

The project was brought to life by the Livingstone Shire Council, Darumbal Enterprises' Nhaya Nicky Hatfield and her daughter Kristina Hatfield, along with help of Bill and Luke Gannon at 'Out There Co'.

Ms Hatfield says she can’t wait to hear us all speaking these Darumbal words 😃
