💩 OXALATES & YOUR COLON: WHY COLON CLEANSING MATTERS
If you’ve ever heard of oxalates but aren’t quite sure what they are - you’re not alone! Oxalates are natural compounds found in many foods like spinach, nuts and sweet potato but when your gut and detox pathways aren’t functioning properly, these little crystals can build up and cause trouble (and fun fact: we always see huge build ups in those who eat a lot of salad and veg!)
💎 What’s the issue with oxalates?
When oxalates accumulate in the body, they can:
- Bind to minerals like calcium, forming sharp crystals
- Contribute to kidney stones, joint pain, fatigue, and inflammation
- Overload your system if your gut bacteria aren’t breaking them down efficiently
🦠 Your gut bacteria play a key role:
Certain species of beneficial bacteria - like Oxalobacter formigenes - help degrade oxalates before they’re absorbed into the bloodstream. But antibiotics, stress, processed food, and poor gut health can wipe out these oxalate-degrading microbes, leaving your body to deal with the excess.
🚽 This is where colon cleansing helps:
During colon hydrotherapy, we often see signs of oxalate buildup being released through the colonic. By gently cleansing the colon and supporting elimination, we:
- Remove waste and excess oxalates directly from the bowel
- Create a cleaner environment for good bacteria to thrive again
- Support the body’s natural detoxification pathways
💧Healthy gut, healthy flow:
When your gut flora is balanced and your colon is functioning optimally, oxalates can leave the body the way they’re meant to - through the stool - instead of being reabsorbed or stored.
Regular colonics, balanced minerals, and nourishing your microbiome all play a role in keeping this detox pathway clear
