It’s taken months of planning and close collaboration between Sylvanvale’s Support Coordination, Clinical Services and Operations teams to make this dream a reality — and the smile on Alex’s face made it all worth it.

We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ken Warburton on Sunday. Ken has played an integral role in Sylvanvale’s story since its very beginning and leaves an incredible legacy within our organisation and our community.

As the son of Sylvanvale founding members Norma and Alan Warburton, the brother of Carol, who was one of the very first children to attend Sylvanvale, and as a Life Member of Sylvanvale, Ken’s connection to our organisation was deeply personal and enduring.

Ken’s generosity and commitment touched so many of us. He was a passionate advocate for people with disability throughout his life and a tireless supporter of Sylvanvale’s work. Through his founding of the Sylvanvale Pre‑WWII Car Show, Ken helped raise more than $190,000 for the people we support, allowing us to purchase vans for them to be able to more easily access the community.

Ken will be remembered not only for what he gave to Sylvanvale, but for the kindness and integrity he showed to the people we support and their families.

We are grateful for everything Ken has done for Sylvanvale and for the wider Sutherland Shire community. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Our thoughts are with Ken’s family and loved ones at this time.

March has been a busy and exciting month for our little learners at Mikarie!

We celebrated National Hot Cross Bun Day, with everyone enjoying a delicious hot cross bun together.

We also hosted our first-ever Transition to School Information Night, where parents learned how Mikarie prepares children for ‘big school’ and gained valuable insights into the expectations Kindergarten teachers have for new students.

The session was hosted by Vanessa and Emily, two of our Early Childhood Educators from the Djadjung Room, alongside guest speaker Nikki, a Primary School Teacher. Parents found the evening engaging, informative, and a great opportunity to ask questions and feel confident about their child’s transition to school.

We’re excited to have renewed our sponsorship of the Sutherland Titans F.C. for another year!

The Sutherland Titans share an important goal: to include people living with disability in mainstream sport, while having plenty of fun along the way.

Sponsorship funds will go towards club uniforms and helping the Titans maintain and purchase new equipment for training sessions and games.

The first match of the season kicks off this Saturday, 28 March. Let’s come together to support our little Titans on the field! 💙💛

Today, we mourn the passing of Ted, who was a core part of the Sylvanvale community for almost 15 years through the incredible work he did as a volunteer at Caringbah Craft Centre.

From the moment he started at Garden House with Sylvanbeats, two things were always true of Ted. The first was the love and support he showed for his brother, Greg, who still participates at Caringbah Craft Centre. The second was that, no matter what, Ted extended that same love and support to everyone around him.

Ted was a volunteer, but he was also so much more. He was a steady presence and a true friend. His absence will be deeply felt, but his legacy lives on in the community he helped build and in the many lives he touched.

This newly renovated home is perfect for a person living with disability who is looking to create strong bonds with housemates while also wanting space to do their own thing when they choose.
