Is this your sign to learn a more inclusive language?

Today we’re celebrating the International Day of Sign Languages, recognising the importance of communication access for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

At Mikarie Child Care Centre, we use Key Word Sign to help children learn inclusive ways to communicate. It’s a fun and powerful way to teach empathy, acceptance and understanding from a young age.

💙 Check out this adorable video of our little learners singing in sign language – it’ll melt your heart!

Ask R U OK? today and every day because a conversation could change a life.

Today on R U OK? Day, we’re reminded of the power of genuine conversations for people living with disability and those who support them. Our industry can bring incredible highs, but also big challenges. That’s why it’s so important to check in with your mates - not just today, but every day.

You don’t need to be an expert to ask, “R U OK?” Just being there, listening, and showing you care can make all the difference.

R U OK? has provided a list of steps to take before asking R U OK?
1. Be ready by making sure you’re in a good head space and willing to genuinely listen
2. Be prepared by remembering you won’t have all the answers (which is OK) and that listening is one of the most important things you can do.
3. Pick your moment – find a time where you can give them at least an hour and no one feels rushed

Let’s create space for real conversations today and every day. Your support matters.

We’ve just come through the wettest August in nearly 30 years, and we’re heading straight into bushfire season. It’s a stark reminder of why being prepared for weather disasters is so important.

People with disability are often among the most vulnerable during emergencies, yet their needs are frequently overlooked in disaster planning.

This month’s Dialogue will explore how we can better prepare and respond to ensure people with disability are safe, supported, and never left behind.

Make sure you register to be part of this important discussion. The free webinar is available for people living with disability, families, support workers, and anyone who wants to learn more about disaster preparation.

🦈Mega fun at the Mega Jaws Experience🦈

The Cronulla Sharks is a beloved team across Sylvanvale, and the people we support jump at opportunities to be involved in their Equal Access programs.

Mark, Daniel, and Cathy had a blast doing footy drills and showing off their cheer leading skills at Sharks Stadium yesterday afternoon.
A huge thank you to the Sharkies for putting on such fun and inclusive events. We’re so excited to see what comes up next!
