One of the biggest “hidden” triggers for heel pain? Going barefoot at home.
Hard floors + less cushioning in the heel over time can make symptoms linger.
This week’s simple change:
✅ Wear supportive sneakers or proper house shoes indoors for 2 weeks

That sharp heel pain on your first steps in the morning?
It’s one of the most common patterns we see—especially in women 50+. The good news is it’s often very treatable once we identify what’s driving it (commonly plantar fascia overload and calf tightness).
A few quick starters:
👟 Wear supportive shoes inside (especially on hard floors)
🦵 Gentle calf mobility later in the day
🚶‍♀️ Avoid big “step count spikes” on good days
If it’s been lingering, a podiatry assessment can help you stop the cycle and walk comfortably again.

Red flags: when to stop DIY your cracked heels and get checked

Most dry heels improve with the right routine — but these signs mean it’s time to book in 🚩
• cracks are painful, deep, or bleeding
• redness, swelling, ooze, warmth, bad smell
• not improving after ~2 weeks of consistent care
• diabetes / reduced sensation / circulation concerns

Book a podiatry heel/skin assessment — we’ll get you comfortable and prevent it worsening.

Today is Teal Ribbon Day 🩵
Teal is worn to support people affected by ovarian cancer and to encourage early conversations.

If you can, wear a teal ribbon (or something teal) and check in on someone you love.

It’s also a good reminder to listen to your body. Persistent, unusual symptoms like ongoing bloating, pelvic/abdominal discomfort, or changes in appetite/urination deserve a chat with your GP.

🩵 Sending support to anyone in our community who’s been affected.

Pool + aircon = dry heels”

Summer combo that dries out heels: pool + aircon + sandals ☀️🏊
If your heels look ashy or feel tight, start early:
✅ moisturise daily (urea-based works well for thick heel skin)
✅ socks at night to lock it in
✅ gentle file 1–2x/week

If cracks are sore or splitting, book a heel assessment.

The #1 mistake: over-filing”

One reason cracked heels don’t improve? Over-filing.
Aggressive daily scraping can irritate skin and sometimes leads to more callus.

Try this instead:
✅ File/pumice 1–2x/week after shower
✅ Light pressure, 10–20 seconds per heel
✅ Moisturise straight after

If you’re getting deep, painful cracks, we can safely reduce callus in clinic.

Heel balms, urea creams, foot files… which ones actually work for cracked heels? 👣
Here’s the simple truth: cracked heels = dryness + thick skin + pressure.
Try this routine:
✅ Nightly urea-based heel cream (often 10–25% for rough heels)
✅ Cotton socks to lock it in
✅ Gentle pumice/file 1–2x/week (avoid over-scrubbing!)
✅ Supportive sandals for long walking days
🚩 Book in if cracks are painful, bleeding, red, or not improving in ~2 weeks—especially if you have diabetes or reduced sensation.

It’s Random Acts of Kindness Day 💛
Here are a few easy ways to spread kindness (that also help keep feet happy):

👣 Offer to carry the groceries for someone
🚶‍♀️ Invite a friend for a short walk (and a proper catch-up)
📞 Call a loved one “just because”
🧦 Pop a pair of comfy socks in a donation bag
💬 Leave a kind note for a teacher, neighbour, or coworker

And don’t forget: kindness counts for you too — a little rest, hydration and a moisturise tonight goes a long way 😊

If you’ve been putting up with sore feet or heel pain, send us a message or call reception (9542 3491) — we’re here to help.
