We are working towards the highest levels of health and happiness for the Swan Hill and surrounding community by providing information on all aspects of health. Our 3 key priority areas for promotion are:

EAT fruit & veg
MOVE more often
SMILE together

These areas target the key messages from current Health Promotion Plan of Swan Hill District Health under promoting healthy lifestyles with a focus on nutrition, oral health, physical activity, inclusion, participation and equity. The program has been running since 2013 and aims to provide the best and most up to date information on health living programs and knowledge to educate and support the Swan Hill and District community. Based in Swan Hill we aim to keep as much of our information as local as possible while sharing reputable information sources across the country and the globe. All information contained on this page is general in nature and for personalised care and recommendations on individual circumstances we recommend you visit your local GP or relevant health service. Making chicken wraps as a family can be a great way to explore different ingredients and textures. This type of meal can provide independence in older children being able to create their own wraps and provides exposure to lots of vegetables in the meal. Even if a child doesn't put something in the wrap just by simply seeing it, smelling it and maybe trying one piece it is one exposure closer to acceptance. Sometimes it can take up to 12 times for a new food to be accepted by a child so keep on trying!

Creating fun food platters like the rainbow fish is a great way to provide children exposure to different foods whether you use fruit, vegetables or a combination of both. Providing new foods with familiar foods can help children to try a new food that they haven't learned to like yet. A brave try of something new can be as simple as touching it, smelling it, licking it or a small bite. Providing an open and relaxed environment while eating can start to build positive relationships with food from an early age.
