I don’t pipe up often on here, but this is important. The comments on this post need a trigger warning, many of the stories told are horrific. I don’t need to tell you what I think of the medical system, but I will ask why are we moving further away from healthly as healthcare “progresses”. The caesarean birth rate is at an all time high at over 40% - inclusive of all the associated risks to mother and baby. Yes sometimes necessary. New normal? No thank you!

Cutting someone’s body open and then operating when they can feel it: That is not supposed to happen. That’s something from history or from war. Significant pain during a C-section can’t be something that 100,000 women experience each year. Can it? Althought I am against the privatisation of healthcare, this is a truely satisfying turn of events. If you are going to pay a premium you should at least have a CHOICE of modality, especially of those with a large evidence base. Hopefully some of my clients and their health can benefit from this return to sense 👏

Do you know what's better than episiotomy for easing a birthing baby out? The Side-lying Release! (See in the comments) When the neurophysiological approach to easier birth isn't known, and when the focus is on the provider to "do something" (and not on the birthing pair who are doing something!) then a force approach (cutting) gets prioritized. Physiology--the stretching edge of birth care!
