Hello,
I am writing to address recent inquiries regarding my availability and services. To be candid, the answer is somewhat complex. Due to ongoing health concerns affecting my children and the resultant complicated schedule of medical appointments, I am currently offering limited services at restricted times.

While I am able to accommodate online Zoom appointments for all services, at selective times my availability for in-person consultations is extremely limited.

Regrettably, I am unable to accept every client at present. However, I remain committed to providing support, referrals to alternative providers, or accommodating clients to the best of my ability given the constraints.

Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support.
Warmest Regards
Katie

This ones for all our unique, amazing teens….

To Any Teen Going Through a Tough Time Right Now:

I want you to hear this clearly: You’re not alone. Even if you feel alone you are not alone. And this moment doesn’t define you.

Life can feel really overwhelming sometimes. Whether it’s school pressure, family stuff, friendship drama, anxiety, or just not feeling like yourself—it’s a lot. And if you’re struggling, it doesn’t mean you're weak or broken. It means you’re human.

Here are a few things I want you to remember:

🌧️ **Hard days don’t last forever.** Even if it feels like the sadness or stress will never end—it won’t always feel this way. Emotions are temporary, even the really intense ones.

📉 **It’s okay not to have it all figured out.** You’re still growing. You’re allowed to be unsure, confused, or lost sometimes. That’s part of being a teen, and honestly, part of being human.

🧩 **You don’t have to go through this alone.** Talking to someone—a friend, a trusted adult, a counselor—can make things feel less heavy. You don’t have to carry everything by yourself.

💪 **Taking care of yourself is a win.** Drinking water, listening to music you love, taking a break from your phone, or just getting through the day? That’s strength.

You are *not* your worst day. You are *not* your mistakes. You are still becoming who you’re meant to be.

If things feel too heavy, please talk to someone. There’s no shame in asking for help—only courage. You matter. You’re needed. And this world is better with you in it.

🙌 Katie

“Why are so many kids autistic now?” 🤔

Must be the vaccines. Or the tablets. Or Cocomelon. Or whatever TikTok told you to panic about today.

Nah, babe. What’s really wild is how y’all act like autism just popped up outta nowhere — when in reality, you grew up surrounded by undiagnosed autistic people. You just called it something else.

Your cousin wasn’t “lazy.” He just couldn’t function without routine.
Your uncle didn’t “give you the creeps.” He struggled with social cues.
Your grandpa with the strict breakfast routine and same chair every morning? That was sensory comfort and hyperfixation.
That classmate who was brilliant but never spoke?
The sibling who had meltdowns over scratchy clothes or loud sounds?
The kid who knew more about dinosaurs or trains than the teacher?
The adult who wears the exact same outfit every single day because it feels right?

You didn’t miss autism. You mislabeled it.
Autism isn’t new — but diagnosis is.
Awareness is.
Acceptance is.

So yeah, go ahead and keep blaming screen time or Tylenol if it makes you feel better — while entire generations of folks were dismissed as “weird,” “bad,” or “slow.”

It’s not a rise in autism.
It’s a rise in people finally being seen for who they really are. 🩷❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜

Why child centred play therapy helps children:

Child-centred play therapy is a powerful and developmentally appropriate approach that helps children express themselves, process experiences, and build emotional resilience. Unlike traditional talk therapy, which often relies on verbal expression, play therapy meets children where they are—through play, their natural language.

So why is it so effective?

1. Play is how children communicate.
Just as adults use words to express feelings and solve problems, children use play. Through symbolic play, they can re-enact experiences, explore emotions, and express what they often can't say with words. Toys become their words, and play becomes their language.

2. It creates a safe and accepting space.
In a child-centred approach, the therapist follows the child’s lead, offering unconditional positive regard, empathy, and safety. This gives the child full permission to be themselves, without judgment or pressure. That safety is essential for healing.

3. It strengthens self-esteem and emotional regulation.
By giving children control within the session, they develop a sense of mastery, autonomy, and confidence. Over time, they begin to regulate their emotions more effectively, problem-solve independently, and cope better with challenges in their everyday lives.

4. It helps process trauma and big emotions.
When children experience grief, separation, abuse, or anxiety, those feelings often get "stuck." Through play therapy, children can symbolically work through these difficult experiences in a developmentally appropriate way, leading to healing and relief.

5. It supports the whole child.
Child-centred play therapy nurtures not only emotional well-being but also social, cognitive, and behavioral development. Improvements in these areas often ripple into home, school, and peer relationships.

In short, child-centred play therapy is not just “playing”—it’s therapeutic work disguised as fun. It honours the child’s voice, promotes emotional growth, and builds lifelong skills for resilience, self-awareness, and healthy relationships.

"Kindness today is a quiet rebellion against a world that often feels rushed and disconnected. It’s in the texts we send, the patience we offer, and the empathy we practice, even when we’re all just trying to keep up. A simple act of kindness can remind someone — including ourselves — that we matter."

Sometimes I hold my tailored sessions outdoors and on the beach. I find my teenage years clients find they get a lot out of their sessions when they are held in a more relaxed environment that doesn’t feel clinical.

Here’s why I do this though….

Therapy sessions on the beach can be especially powerful—offering unique benefits that go beyond those of general sessions.

1. The Ocean’s Rhythmic Sound Is Naturally Calming**

* The steady rhythm of waves mimics the body’s natural resting state and can induce a meditative effect.
* Wave sounds activate the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing anxiety and promoting relaxation.
* It can help quiet internal noise, making it easier for clients to access deeper emotions and thoughts.

2. The Beach Is an Open, Expansive Space**

* Wide, open horizons can symbolically create a sense of emotional spaciousness and possibility.
* Clients may feel less “contained” or trapped than they would in a closed office.
* This can be particularly helpful for clients dealing with grief, trauma, or overwhelm.

3. Grounding Through Sand and Water**

* Walking barefoot in the sand or dipping feet into the ocean engages the senses and promotes grounding (literally and metaphorically).
* The texture of sand and the feel of water bring clients into their bodies, which is especially useful for trauma, anxiety, or dissociation.

4. Symbolism of the Ocean**

* The ocean often becomes a living metaphor: depth, change, surrender, flow, cleansing, and renewal.
* Clients naturally make meaning from the setting, which can enrich therapeutic conversations.

5. Built-In Mindfulness Opportunities**

* Watching waves, noticing the sun on the skin, or hearing seagulls are all invitations to practice mindfulness.
* These natural sensory cues can help anchor anxious or dysregulated clients in the present moment.

6. Movement and Embodiment**

* Walking along the shore supports emotional regulation and cognitive flexibility.
* Physical movement while talking can release tension and help access thoughts that may feel blocked in a traditional seated session.

7. Reduced Pressure and Eye Contact**

* Walking side by side or sitting facing the ocean (not directly across from the therapist) reduces performance pressure.
* Clients often open up more easily in this relaxed posture, especially teens, men, or people new to therapy.
