✅ Healthy Office Habits - Tip #3 ✅
🧠Mental Breaks️ 🧠
Psychological and mental time out from your daily work is equally as important as having a physical break away from your workstation. We are all busy and want to cram in as much work as possible in the time we have, but moving away from your workstation and having regular mental breaks has been shown to improve productivity and mood for the remainder of the working day. So no more eating lunch at your desk, take it and sit outside (maybe not today in Melb!) or go for a walk and you will feel better for it 😃

✅ Healthy Office Habits - Tip #2 ✅
🚶‍♂️Regular Movement 🚶‍♀️
Your body loves movement and generally in the office or home office we don’t move anywhere near enough. If you find yourself sitting/standing still for long periods without movement then remember to aim for 1-2 minutes of movement (ie. going for a walk to the kitchen) every 30-45 minutes of computer based work. This will reduce the risk of aches and pains that may be due to fatigue/lack of movement 😃

✅Healthy Office Habits - Tip #1 ✅
👀 Eye Health – 20/20/20 rule 👀
When spending extended hours in front of your computer screen it is important to give your eyes regular breaks. The 20/20/20 rule is a good one to follow, it recommends that every 20 minutes, try to look 20 ft (approx. 6 metres) away for 20 seconds or more. This will help your eyes focus on something in the distance which will help reduce eye fatigue throughout your day 😃

Great information about running technique 👏

“Do not change running technique in non-injured athletes with the goal of ‘preventing injury’ “ - if it’s not broken then don’t try to fix it 😄

Get running 🏃!

A recent study showed that runners were 30% less likely to have cardiovascular and cancer related deaths than non runners. Also as little as 5-10 minutes of running had a positive impact on reducing this risk, so don’t think you need to run marathons to experience this improvement 😄

Today marks the final day of the push up challenge! What a great experience it has been, but our push for mental health awareness and improving care for individuals with mental health struggles will continue 😄

Today’s 90 push ups represent nature’s influence on mental health. Did you know 90 minutes of time spent in nature can decrease your blood pressure, improve immune function, decrease depressive symptoms, and actually change the brain’s activity. A 90 minute nature walk can decrease activation in the area of our brains associated with negative thoughts. So even though it might be winter right now, it’s worth finding your closest green space and soaking up the mental health benefits of the great outdoors 🌳 🌳 🌳

On the home straight now, 220 push ups is the biggest day so far in the challenge! It’s been a long day so far 😂

220 represents the yearly cost of mental illness in Australia and which is up to $220 billion 😮

Day 10 of the Push up challenge - 195 push ups today to represent the 195 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders who died from su***de in 2019.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are over 200% more likely to die from su***de than others living in Australia, which is incredibly sad.

Nearly half way through the push up challenge and definitely feeling it, but well worth it for this very worthy cause 👊

Day 10 / June 10

First Nations People: Today’s target is 195 push-ups, to represent the 195 First Nations Australians who died by su***de in 2019. The burden of mental ill health is disproportionately felt by our First Nations people. Currently, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are over 200% more likely to die from su***de than other people living in Australia.

Day 8 of the challenge - 209 push ups today pwoah 😅

209 represents the number of males in Australia who die from su***de every month! And out of our 3318 push ups for the challenge 2502 of those represent males, so males account for over 75% of all su***de in Australia based off 2019 statistics.

Reach out if you need help or just a chat and let’s all reach out to those close to us today. Mensline is a 24/7 national service helping men with mental health, their number is 1300 78 99 78. Otherwise Lifeline is another amazing service for all, the number is 13 11 14

Day 8 / June 8

209 men every month: Of the 3,318 push-ups this year, 2,502 of them represent men who died by su***de in Australia in 2019. That’s over 75% of the total, and is equal to about 209 men every month. Women experience mental health issues at higher rates than men, and report higher rates of suicidality. However, men are less likely to seek help for mental illness, and are 3x more likely to die by su***de.

Some spaces within our communities exist especially to support the mental health of the men in our lives, like the Men’s Shed. Men’s Sheds provide open workspaces where men can socialise, work, or help out their communities.

If you or a male you know needs to talk to someone about mental health, Mensline is a national service for men providing referrals, counselling and support. Call 1300 78 99 78 (24 hours a day).
