If you feel yourself getting stuck - this may be stuck on a section of a report, stuck in a negative mindset, etc. - try changing your environment to reset. You might go outside briefly, you might be able to work in a different room. Sometimes a small change like your environment can be enough to refocus. πŸ€—

A great way to build rapport and trust with a child is to get on their level - squat down so you are the same height. You can do this when greeting them, when giving feedback, when managing behavior. You’re already getting them to do things that are hard, we don’t need to be any more intimidating by being bigger than them too. πŸ’•πŸ§Žβ€β™€οΈ

There are some things that you will use multiple times in each session that are handy to have close. This can be things like pens, stickers, stamps, a glue stick, and a stapler. We recommend keeping those things in a little box next to you - that way you have quick access to them rather than having to walk across the room each time you need them. πŸ’―

When you are learning to do something new, it is expected that it will take a little longer. What you will want to see is that the more you do something, the easier it becomes and the quicker you can do it. It is important to reflect on how long things like reports are taking you to write. Is there a specific section that always takes ages? Think about why that is and seek feedback on how to improve it. This will leave you with more time to develop other things like your teaching skills. β³πŸ€”

Our professions are based on science, however, teaching our children is an art. Make sure you talk with your team about teaching different goals. You might ask about the steps within a goal, activities to do to complete a goal, and even watch other clinician's sessions. Each clinician can bring a different perspective when working on a goal and at the early stages of your career, building flexibility and having different ways to work on a goal is so important. πŸ₯°πŸ€

When preparing for a new client of a long term plan for a current client, think about their big picture goals first (what is impacting them the most, what are their parents most concerned about) then think about the smaller steps that you will need to reach those goals. This will help you make sure they have all of the foundation skills they need and can help the parents understand how the small steps build up to their big goals. 🌟❀️
