Fancy a trip to the theatre? There are so many fantastic shows now playing across Australia, with many of them offering a variety of accessible performances to make your trip enjoyable and memorable.

Almost all theatre shows offer Audio Described Performances, where audience members who are blind or have low vision are provided with headsets to listen to a live commentary of the show. This commentary describes the visual aspects that appear on stage including costumes, characters, action, setting, and facial expressions.

Many shows also offer AUSLAN Signed Performances. During these shows, there will be an Auslan interpreter in front or to the side of the stage professionally signing the performance.

There are also Relaxed Performances, specifically offered by Beauty and The Beast in Perth. At a Relaxed Performance, every audience member is encouraged to be completely themselves and you can move around, leave and enter the theatre as needed, fidget, make sounds or use headphones. They have conducted these throughout their performances across Australia and they have been a great success!

Swipe through to see which show near you has one of these options available!

This week marks the start of National Stroke Week.

This week is observed Australia-wide every year, and encourages all to be aware of the F.A.S.T. (Face, Arms, Speech and Time) signs of stroke to potentially save someone's life.

The F.A.S.T test is a simple check to recognise the common signs of stroke:

- Face: Check their face. Has their mouth drooped?
- Arms: Can they lift both arms?
- Speech: Is their speech slurred? Do they understand you?
- Time: Is critical. If you see any of these signs call 000 straight away.

Use this week to make yourself aware of the F.A.S.T signs. Know the signs and you could save a life.

EnAccess Maps: An app developed by University of Melbourne students making dining out a smooth experience for people living with a disability. It was founded in 2021 by Uni of Melbourne student Sabrina Leung and it aims to connect people with accessible restaurants and other venues. When you open the app, you can specify your venue (e.g. restaurant, library, etc.), the location and accessibility requirements. The app then provides a list of venues near you that match these preferences. The app provides a variety of different filters so you can tailor your accessibility preferences to you, for example, bathroom availability, movement space, step-free access and parking. The team works alongside different disability service providers Australia-wide who assist with data collection. EnAccess is a free service available to all and is currently focused on the Melbourne area, but the team hope to expand globally one day, with University of Melbourne student volunteers going out each month to vet venues. They currently have 700 venues logged and will continue to expand.

This week is NAIDOC Week!

NAIDOC Week is celebrated every year during the first week of July and it looks to celebrate the culture, achievements and history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and also provides all Australians the opportunity to learn more about First Nations cultures. This year is particularly special as it marks 50 years of NAIDOC!

The theme for this year is 'The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy'. After already holding a 50-year legacy of NAIDOC, the 2025 theme looks to acknowledge and celebrate not only the accomplishments of the past, but also the promising future ahead—driven by the strength of our young leaders, communities, and the enduring legacy of our ancestors.

How are you celebrating NAIDOC Week this year? 👇

During the month of June, there have been some major changes to pricing within the NDIS, effecting a variety of service providers. These changes took effect on the 1st of July 2025.

Some of the changes include:
- reducing price limits for some therapy supports
- cuts made to physio (a $10 reduction), podiatry and dietetics (a $5 reduction)
- occupational therapy pricing seeing no increase for the seventh year in a row
- removing the higher price loading in WA, SA, Tas and NT for physiotherapy and psychology
- removal of price loadings in some rural areas
- travel cost reimbursements cut by 50% of the hourly rate
- ceasing plan management set-up fees and remote loadings.

These changes, specifically changes in travel reimbursement, will have a major impact on rural families and clients. Many may have to turn to telehealth for consultations.
