When is surgery recommended for endometriosis?

💙 Surgery may be considered when symptoms are significant or when imaging suggests disease that could interfere with fertility.

👩‍⚕️ The goal can be pain relief, improving pelvic anatomy or addressing lesions that may impact egg retrieval, egg quality or implantation.

When it comes to endometriosis and infertility, there is no one-size-fits-all! Decisions about surgery are individual and involve careful assessment.

What does “biochemical pregnancy” mean?

A biochemical pregnancy occurs when a positive pregnancy test is followed by a decline in hormone levels before a gestational sac becomes visible on ultrasound.

It reflects a very early pregnancy loss. Many occur due to chromosomal (genetic) factors within the early pregnancy and are not caused by anything a person did or didn’t do.

Super S***m!

When it comes to IVF, we don’t just use any s***m, we search for the Olympians! 🏃‍♂️

Before fertilisation, every s***m sample goes through a specialised S***m Preparation process in the IVF lab.

Think of it as the ultimate obstacle course designed to find the best swimmers:

1. Density Gradient Centrifugation: This is like a high-tech filter. We layer the sample into special solutions, spin it really fast, and only the strongest, healthiest, and best-shaped s***m manage to swim through the layers to the bottom. All the slow, poor-quality debris is left behind.

2. Swim-Up Method: This is the s***m marathon. The sample is left to sit, and the most active s***m instinctively swim up out of the solution and into a fresh, clean media.
Why do we do this? To select the most motile (best moving) and morphologically normal (best shaped) s***m, increasing the chances of a successful fertilisation and a healthy embryo.

Our Goal: Quality, not just quantity.

What is low-stimulation IVF? 💙

Low-stim IVF uses lower doses of fertility medication than conventional IVF, with the aim of encouraging the ovaries to produce a smaller number of eggs.

For some patients, this approach may be considered where a gentler medication protocol is preferred, where there is a lower ovarian reserve, or where reducing the physical or emotional burden of treatment is an important part of care planning.
