How do you give feedback to a child in your language therapy sessions?

It is tempting to either say, “great job!” or “try again”!

These statements are quite general.

For feedback to be effective to encourage change in language therapy, our feedback MUST be:

⭐️Specific

⭐️Positive

⭐️Consistent

⭐️Immediate

Here are 2 examples:

“You said same, that was fantastic, how you picked the items that match”

“Try again, these items don’t match, they are ...” use a sign to prompt for different.

Think about how do you give feedback to your child in therapy? Can you change that this week?

With a fresh new year ahead in 2026—and a new little one joining our family as we go from four to five 🥹💛—it feels like the perfect time to reintroduce myself.

And with so many new faces here, welcome!

I’m Emily—a Speech Pathologist on the Central Coast, Australia. I mentor speechies, support educators and parents, and run alongside my husband, Michael. I’m also mum to two busy, beautiful girls, Evie and Isabelle… with baby #3 arriving this year.

My vision?

A world where every child thrives in their communication. 🌍🗣️

Language is the foundation of connection, belonging, literacy, and life.

But for many children, language development isn’t unfolding as easily as it should—and that’s where my mission comes in: to show speechies, educators, and parents how to make language simple, practical, and achievable in everyday moments.

If you’re wanting more support this year, you’ll find courses and freebies in my bio.

So glad you’re here. Welcome again, and here’s to a purposeful, growth-filled 2026 together! 🤗❤️
