Biggest Morning Tea time! We all made yummy things, but Em and I ended up head to head with brown butter chocolate chip cookies… Em’s had the chew, and mine had the chocolate, but it was her flaked sea salt for the win I reckon 🤣

Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS) is the new name for polycystic ovarian syndrome, to better reflect our understanding of this condition. The previous name came from observations over 100 years ago. The basis for PMOS is endocrine disturbances that lead to the clinical picture that we know. Diagnostic criteria and treatment haven’t changed, and the terminology will change over the next 2 years as guidelines are updated. PMOS is an area of interest for me in my practice, whether you’re trying to get pregnant or not If you’re concerned about PMOS please make an appt to discuss an individualised approach to your treatment.

Happy International Nurses Day! A baby who decided she wanted to be born yesterday instead of today gave us the time to sit down with a coffee to celebrate. Apparently the nurses at Kareena are getting gelato today in appreciation of everything they do! “Empowered Nurses Save Lives”

International Day of the Midwife is celebrated on 5 May recognising the critical role our midwifery colleagues play. The 2026 theme is “One Million More Midwives” focusing on the global need for more midwives. I was privileged to present The Sutherland Hospital Midwife of the Year Award to Bri (one of our amazing MGP midwives) on Friday night at our hospital Nursing and Midwifery awards night.

For many, their periods don’t come back for a few weeks to a few months after birth. Breastfeeding can delay periods for some, but not for everyone and it can be different after each baby too!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And when it does come back?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It might feel different.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Heavier than before
- More cramping (or sometimes less)
- Irregular at first
- A different colour or flow pattern
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is your body recalibrating after pregnancy, birth, and huge hormonal shifts. it’s completely normal for things to take a little time to settle.

Your body has gone through a lot 🤍

Often families wonder who is going to be in the theatre with them and often there’s quite a lot of health professionals there all with specific roles.

One of these important roles in theatre is your Anaesthetist. Their role is to make sure that you aren’t in any pain during the procedure and to make sure you are comfortable. If you feel unwell or even just want a chat to distract you they’re the best for this 🙌🏼

April is Caesarean Awareness Month ✨

Caesarean Awareness Month is about education, advocacy, and support - not promoting or discouraging caesarean births, but helping families better understand them.

For some families a caesarean isn’t the birth of choice but the one that is medically necessary to bring their baby into the world safely and for other families caesareans are the birth that they choose. Caesareans and maternal assisted caesareans can be the most beautiful experiences for families and no family should be shamed for their birth - chosen or not 🤍

For all the caesarean families I’ve cared for - I am proud of you!

It’s hard to believe in 2026 that there’s still road blocks to having open conversations about mental health. My good mate Jeff and I are spending the weekend driving around in the bush on the Beyond Bitumen Rally raising awareness and funds for Beyond Blue. There’s resources available for everyone to help each other, or seek help when you need it. https://beyond-bitumen.raiselysite.com/jeff-church
