Australia with its current guidelines around HPV vaccination, screening and treatment is leading the way world wide in being the first country to possibly eliminate cervical cancer by 2035.

What an immensely proud movement to be a part of as a health care professional.

With a locally developed vaccine, robust National immunisation program, all round uptake with the 5 yearly screening, self collect swabs to target under screened group and prompt treatment of pre-cancerous changes are strong pillars on which this program is based.

Further focus on unscreened population will be the key towards fast forwarding towards this solid goal.

Finding out you are pregnant is one of biggest life's moments - and suddenly your mind is full of questions

Your first Antenatal appointment is your opportunity to ask every single one of these questions and more. I will confirm your dates, talk through your pregnancy screening options, go over your blood tests, discuss about your pregnancy supplements, and start planning the care that is right for you.

No two pregnancies are the same. What matters is that you feel seen, supported and never alone in it.

February is ovarian cancer awareness month. This female cancer has no available screening test, and symptoms that are non specific leading to late diagnosis and poor survival.

January is Cervical Cancer Awareness month. It is an important reminder of the role of simple strategies like HPV vaccination, regular Cervical Screening tests (now every 5 years in Australia) and prompt treatment of pre-cancerous changes, leading to its near elimination in younger age groups. Persistence and compliance with these strategies will translate into similar outcomes across all age groups.

At my practice, we welcome Australian Governments women’s health package which has rolled out from 1 November 2025 making it easier and affordable to access use of long term contraceptives.
This will include
- higher Medicare rebates for Insertion and removal of long active contraceptives
- 40% loading for bulk billing providers
- free training for practitioner’s

This is a great effort to make women’s health care more equitable as also access to rural and remote communities
