🗣️ From “Wion” to “Lion”! Mastering the /L/ Sound
Many children replace the /L/ sound with a /W/ - saying “wike” instead of “like” or “wemon” instead of “lemon”. This process is called gliding, and while it’s typical in younger children, it becomes no longer age-appropriate as they get older.
When gliding persists, it can affect how children perceive and produce sounds - skills that are crucial for reading and spelling development. Clear articulation helps children build phonological awareness, the ability to hear and identify sounds in words, which forms the foundation for literacy success.
At Speech & Growth, we make speech therapy fun and engaging! Using mirrors, visuals, and playful activities, we help children build confidence and clarity with every sound they learn. 💬✨
