For years, one of the biggest concerns around testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) has been its link to prostate cancer. Many men who had their prostate removed were told TRT might “feed” the cancer and increase the risk of it returning.
But new research is challenging that long-standing fear. Flores et al. (2024) found that TRT does not appear to raise the risk of prostate cancer recurrence in men who have already undergone prostate removal.
This is an important step forward for men’s health. Not only does it help break the stigma around TRT, but it also opens the door for men who are struggling with low testosterone symptoms, fatigue, low mood, poor muscle recovery, reduced libido, to explore treatment options with more confidence.
Of course, every patient’s situation is unique. TRT should always be considered in consultation with a qualified medical professional who can weigh up personal history, lab results, and ongoing monitoring.
But findings like this are encouraging and support what many men and clinicians have already seen in practice: TRT, when carefully managed, can be a safe and effective tool for restoring quality of life.
