Why should Aging Australians have to wait longer than meeting, often more than a year to receive basic care?

The new figure was revealed in a Senate Inquiry into aged care service delivery, today.

“We are alarmed to discover that the number of older Australians waiting for crucial aged care in their own homes is far higher than previously thought,” said Ageing Australia CEO Tom Symondson.

“Providers have told us time and again that they have the capacity to care for many more older people, but this simply isn’t possible without more home care packages.”

“We must urgently address the growing waiting list, both those awaiting a package and the substantial number of people who are waiting to get an assessment.”

“We’ve been calling for the immediate release of 20,000 home care packages before 1 November. We’ve also been calling for a frontloading of the 83,000 packages to be released from 1 November, so that we can start clearing the waiting list as soon as possible. Older Australians need to know that when they seek care, it will be available to them.”

About the Opportunity
Aspire Challenge Evolve 247 (ACE247) is looking for a passionate and experienced Level 2 and/or Level 3 Support Coordinator to join our well-established team. This casual role comes with an existing caseload, allowing you to hit the ground running and make an impact from day one.

Your Role
As a Support Coordinator, you’ll work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to ensure participants receive tailored, high-quality support that aligns with their goals. You’ll:
• 📝 Assess client needs and create personalised support plans
• 🤝 Coordinate and arrange services including in-home care, assistive technology, and community participation
• 🗣 Advocate for participants and liaise with service providers to ensure the best outcomes
• 📊 Monitor progress, review plans, and make adjustments as needed
• 💬 Provide compassionate, person-centred guidance to clients and families
• 📂 Maintain accurate, professional documentation in line with industry standards

What We’re Looking For
• 🎯 Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Support Coordinator or similar role in disability or aged care
• 💬 Excellent communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport
• 🧩 Strong problem-solving skills and a client-focused approach
• 📚 Solid understanding of the NDIS framework, legislation, and compliance requirements
• 👥 Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
