The body always wants to heal, that’s why we experience symptoms. It’s how our body communicates with us and tells us when it’s struggling.

You know if you know! 😂😂

The low FODMAP diet is a diet low in fermentable carbs and often recommended to manage irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) 😖

This type of diet is not designed to be undertaken for long periods and strict FODMAP restriction can induce a potentially unfavourable gut microbiome over time and risk of nutritional inadequacy.

Restoring gut microbial balance and diversity, along with good digestion is key to healing and overcoming gut dysfunction.

I’m my clinical experience there is so much more that can be investigated and treated ie with functional pathology testing and addressing potential root cause/s or possible underlying factors that led to gut issues in the first place.

If the above sounds like you and you’re fed up with the low FODMAP diet roller coaster then please get in touch. Link in bio.

Winter cravings for hearty, warm and nourishing food here in Oz with the chilly temps. Slow cooker meals and soups on the menu! 🍲

Just a reminder to…

Boost your intake of plant foods and fibre!

So easy to top your dishes with cut up fresh leafy greens, herbs and spices that not only compliment the flavour of the dish but also boost the nutrition profile as well as support your gut health and digestion.

Remember fibre is key for healthy bowel function and to keep you nice and regular, to feed your beneficial microbes that are busy supporting your overall health (particularly from prebiotic fibre) and therefore provide enormous health benefits such as supporting your immune system and lowering inflammation.

Fibre also helps prevent energy slumps and poor concentration by maintaining blood sugar levels and may help improve cholesterol levels too.

Don’t hold back 🌱🌿

I see and treat gastrointestinal conditions like IBS, SIBO, LIBO, Candida overgrowth and parasites all the time!

IBS - irritable bowel syndrome
SIBO - small intestinal bacterial overgrowth
LIBO - large intestinal bacterial overgrowth
Candida - a fungal overgrowth

What I know to be true is that these are all manifestations of something greater going on with your digestive system, and often your nervous system too (stress, trauma).

I know first hand how frustrating it feels to have a diagnosis like IBS but no guidance or reason why you ended up with such a diagnosis in the first place.

Most often there are answers to be found. I don’t accept that we suddenly end up with unexplainable symptoms or a condition like IBS.

Getting to the bottom of what set you up with poor gut health in the first instance is vital.

And that’s where I come in!

Often they are the things that contribute to low stomach acid production (meds, crap diet, alcohol, stress, infection), which in turn creates a domino effect throughout the gut and can lead to:

➡️ Slower motility
➡️ Dysbiosis
➡️ Leaky gut
➡️ Autoimmunity
➡️ Food intolerances/allergies
➡️ Systemic inflammation
➡️ Poor mood
➡️ Fatigue
➡️ Weight issues
➡️ Disease

Our stomach acid acts as a firewall and deterrent for pathogens to prevent these conditions and keep things in check.

It also helps us break down and absorb our nutrients. We need it strong so it can do its job.

I help clients heal from complicated cases involving bloating, reflux, constipation, diarrhoea, yeast infection as well as issues that are seemingly unrelated e.g respiratory, hormonal and skin issues but they’re often not unrelated at all.

I use targeted microbiome testing in clinic which is so useful where there is a chronic symptom picture or you’ve had all the scopes but no real answers.

Your digestion and microbiome are fundamental to your health and longevity.

Our bodies are amazing! They are always working to protect, balance and deepen us in every way.

When something is out of whack, they give us subtle signs that things are not quite right.

A bit of a nudge. A headache, tiredness, indigestion, niggling pain, poor sleep, bloating….

When we ignore these subtle signs of imbalance, the little things can become bigger things and lead to ⬇️

Fatigue, nutritional deficiencies, infections, disorders and disease.

Our bodies are always seeking to find a way to communicate with us and make us listen to what it needs.

Don’t wait until it’s screaming at you before you pay attention.

Today, as I reflected on this recent photo taken with my eldest son, I thought what an extraordinary ride it is to be his mum and witness his amazing growth and journey to becoming a man. I have so many hopes for him and for his future.

And so it is with sadness that we remember those sons today who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. As a mother, I can’t even begin to imagine.

Lest we forget ♥️

Nothing beats a much needed break…

The NSW South coast is an absolute beauty 😍

Some time out to rest and heal.

I took a nasty fall recently and fractured my ribs and tore a knee ligament 😔

This after dealing with a household of the dreaded virus last month! 🤧🤪

Being unwell and injured is totally the pits I know.

It can feel devastating when you feel far from where you want to be.

Giving yourself time to heal and recover is vital. Slowly but surely.

Healing of any kind is a real journey. It challenges you. It can’t be rushed.

This I know to be true in all the ways. No matter what you’re healing from.

Small steps and time.

For now, I’ll just enjoy the view. Poolside, beachside and a cocktail or two 😊

Focusing on the positives is key. Self-care never more a priority.

I’ll be back in clinic next week, well rested and ready to go!

HEALTHY DIGESTION TIP NO. 3

Are you chewing your food enough? 🤔 Probably not.

Optimal chewing is one of the best things we can do to support our digestive system so we can adequately break down our food and absorb all those vital nutrients our body needs to thrive. It also helps reduce the potential for annoying digestive symptoms 😣
