Hi, I’m Dr I-Ferne Tan—Fertility & Reproductive Health Specialist and Surgeon.

I’m an Australian trained gynaecologist with additional specialist qualifications in Infertility and advanced surgery. But more importantly, I’m someone who’s been there.

This page is a safe space where I share evidence-based information on women’s health, fertility, and everything in between—the things we should be talking about, but often don’t.

I became a fertility specialist because of my own experiences with reproductive health challenges at a young age. I know what it feels like to want answers, support, and clarity—and that’s exactly what I hope to offer here.

Whether you’re facing fertility issues, painful periods, pelvic pain or you’re just trying to make sense of what’s going on with your body—you’re not alone, and you deserve care that listens.

💡 I support patients with:
🌸 Office (awake) hysteroscopy
🔬 Minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy & hysteroscopy)
🩸 Abnormal bleeding, fibroids & polyps
🌿 Endometriosis & pelvic pain
🧊 Fertility preservation (egg freezing)
👩‍❤️‍👨 Male and female fertility Issues

Let’s take the pressure off and get clear on what’s going on—together.

Let's clarify what AMH tests actually tell us: they measure potential eggs, not your chances of pregnancy. Age remains our best predictor of egg quality.

Understanding how these two factors work together can help you make informed decisions about your fertility timeline and treatment options.

'How many eggs will I get during retrieval?' This is a common question I hear from my patients, and my answer is always the same: it depends on what your body can do. 🥚

Let’s be clear: PCOS is not a joke.
It’s a complex condition that’s often misunderstood — and too many patients are made to feel like they’re overreacting, dramatic, or “less feminine” because of it.
It's time we call it out:
No more shame. No more silence. Just real, compassionate care.

I honestly get it. Fertility can feel overwhelming, not just emotionally, but linguistically!

Whether you’re TTC, starting IVF, or simply lost in fertility jargon - I wrote this post for you.

Here are some of the most common fertility terms (and what they mean) for you to save and refer to when needed.

If there’s a term you’ve heard that I’ve missed? Drop a comment below.

While the concept might seem simple - s***m meets egg - the reality is far more complex, especially in a fertility lab.

There are a few key factors that we focus on when it comes to creating ‘good’ embryos:

✔️ Embryo Quality: The way cells divide and develop.
✔️Genetic Health: Testing for chromosomal abnormalities to increase the chances of success.
✔️Egg and S***m Health: Their quality sets the foundation for a healthy embryo.
✔️Lab Conditions: The environments in which embryos grow to give them the best chance to thrive.

Why does this matter? A “good” embryo improves the chances of successful implantation and a healthy pregnancy.

You might have heard about gut microbiome but did you know that your va**na has it’s own ecosystem of bacteria?

There is increasing evidence that the va**nal microbiome plays a significant role in fertility, from supporting s***m survival to helping embryos implant.

Here’s why it matters:
A healthy microbiome supports pH levels that help s***m thrive.
Imbalances (dysbiosis) can cause inflammation, affecting egg and s***m quality, and reducing implantation success.
Disruptions in the microbiome are linked to higher risks of infertility, miscarriage or preterm birth.

Microbiome testing is increasingly recognised as a key part of personalised fertility care.

What can you do today?
Avoid overcleaning and douching; the va**na is self-cleaning.
Stay hydrated and eat a diet rich in probiotics and prebiotics.
Minimise unnecessary antibiotic use.

If you’re curious how your microbiome could impact your fertility - get in touch.

The fertility industry is a rapidly evolving field. With advancements come trends - and home fertility testing kits are one of them.
At-home AMH testing kits can seem like an easy way to get answers, but there’s more to the story.

While these kits can seem convenient, here’s what you need to know:

- Your AMH score (a measure of ovarian reserve) isn’t the full picture of your fertility.
- Factors like age, egg quality, and overall health can be more important than your “”score””.
- Without expert medical advice, the results from these kits can lead to confusion, or unnecessary stress.

✨ What’s the takeaway? These kits are a tool, not a solution. Always consult a specialist to understand your fertility in the context of your unique health and goals.

Many people go into the new year with high (and often unrealistic) expectations on themselves. Whether based undoing last year’s “failures” or trying to fix things we don’t like about ourselves. But here’s the truth: only 1% of New Year resolutions actually stick.

This year, let’s take a different approach one rooted in wellness and balance.

You’ve probably heard of challenges like 75 Hard or 75 Mid, which focus on creating better habits around exercise, healthy eating, and mindfulness. Did you know these same principles can help optimise fertility too?

Want to start small? I’ve created a fun bingo-style cheatsheet with simple daily actions to guide you towards better habits, whether you’re focusing on wellness or fertility goals.
