So many people, particularly women, look to intermittent fasting as a way to lose weight. But what I see a lot in clinic is that women typically do not thrive on this lifestyle.
They are tired, fatigued and crave sugar of an afternoon, and what I ask my clients often is ‘Are you having breakfast?’.
Skipping breakfast and getting to a point of extreme hunger causes your blood sugar to spike, signalling the release of cortisol (the stress hormone) in an attempt to regulate your blood sugar levels.
This causes the body to go into fight or flight mode which stops fat burning.
So what if this is a lifestyle you want to follow, I recommend having dinner earlier (around 6pm) and eating breakfast the next morning at around 8-9am. This still gives your body 12 hours to fast, rest and digest.
