Dear Alpha Omega clients and family carers,

Please be advised that the Alpha Omega office will be closed for the Anzac Day public holidays on Saturday, 25 April, 2026, and Monday, 27 April, 2026. We will reopen on Tuesday, 28 April, 2026.

If you will be away during the holiday period or do not need services on the public holidays and would like to reschedule, please contact your Care Coordinator or Care Scheduling Officer as soon as possible.

For urgent matters during this closure, please contact our after-hours service at 0404 052 896. In the event of a medical emergency, please dial 000.

Alpha Omega again celebrated our annual Lunar New Year Banquet in style. This time at the new CabraVale Resort Club, attended by over 400s of our 1000 plus aged care clients across Sydney who made it. There were a total of 45 tables with a delicious 10 course Chinese banquet catered by the renowned Horizon Seafood Restaurant, plus live entertainment. Thanks to our dedicated team for making this a successful event.

⚠️ Important Health Alert: Bushfire Smoke & Air Quality ⚠️

The Department of Health, Disability, and Ageing has issued an alert regarding bushfire smoke currently impacting air quality across Australia, including Victoria.

Older people and those with chronic illnesses are at higher risk. Please take the following precautions to stay safe:

🩺 Monitor Your Health
- Call 000 for breathing trouble or chest pain.
- Monitor for coughing, wheezing or worsening of chronic conditions.
- Ensure older people follow their Asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease action plans and have medications ready.
- For non-emergencies, call 1800 Medicare (1800 633 422) for free health advice from a registered nurse, available 24/7.

🏠 Manage Your Environment
- Stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed when air quality is poor.
- Set air-conditioning units to recirculate; do not use evaporative coolers.
- Use high-efficiency particle air filters in designated rooms with low foot traffic.
- Move all outdoor activities indoors or reschedule them.
- Consider P2/N95 masks for necessary outdoor travel.

📻 Stay Informed
- Listen to local emergency radio stations.
- Check the air and water quality in your area.
- Review enHealth guidance for managing prolonged smoke events:

This guidance from the Environmental Health Standing Committee (enHealth) provides nationally consistent approaches to health protection measures when smoke impacts from landscape fires last for a prolonged period (more than 2 to 3 days).

🚨 URGENT HEATWAVE ALERT 🚨

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued Heatwave warnings effective from now through to Saturday, 10 January 2026 in NSW and VIC. And heatwave warnings effective from now through to Friday, 9 January 2026 in SA.

Heatwaves can be dangerous, especially for older adults, people with medical conditions, and young children. Please act now to stay safe:

💧 Drink Water: Hydrate throughout the day, even if you aren’t thirsty.
🏠 Stay Cool: Stay in the coolest part of your home or visit a local library/community centre.
☀️ Block the Heat: Keep windows and blinds closed during the day.
❄️ Use Cooling: Turn on your fans and air-conditioners.

Yesterday, we celebrated our Aged Care Christmas Party & Monthly Birthday Celebration with our wonderful aged care clients!

We had a blast painting Christmas ornaments, enjoyed a special Santa Greeting (huge thanks to our care partner Matthew for being Santa!), did some light exercise, and shared a delicious luncheon. We wrapped up by celebrating all our December birthdays!

What a joy-filled day! Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and happy holidays! ❤️

What’s involved:

• Working with clients under the Support at Home program
• Care planning and coordinating services

• Bilingual English and Assyrian
• 1+ year experience in aged care or care coordination
• Good communication and organisational skills
• Driver licence

Last week, our wonderful Arabic and Assyrian Aged Care participants gathered for a festive spring social outing at La Vita Mediterranean in Edensor Park!

We celebrated some lovely birthdays, had a blast with games like bingo, and shared a small, heartfelt farewell for our amazing coordinator, Rana, as she heads off on maternity leave!
