✨ Meet Joelle ✨

We’re celebrating Joelle, who embraced her pregnancy and postpartum journey with strength and determination! 💪

During her second pregnancy, Joelle stayed active with weekly pilates at WIF, helping her manage pelvic girdle pain, stay strong, and prepare for birth. After her baby’s arrival, she joined our Mumma’s Classes, focusing on core recovery, pelvic floor control, and regaining confidence for gym workouts—all while bringing her baby along! 🍼

Joelle’s dedication and trust in the team have been inspiring. We’re so proud of her progress after two cesareans and seeing her get back to her active life! 💖

Your journey matters. Book a prenatal appointment and let us support you from pregnancy into the postnatal period and beyond.

💡Spotlight on the Urethral Sphincter

Ever wondered why you might leak when you cough, sneeze, or jump? 🤔 The urethral sphincter is the muscle that helps control urine flow, but factors like hormonal changes, aging, or nerve injury can weaken it, leading to stress urinary incontinence (SUI).

Understanding the cause is key to improvement!

Our Physio Virginia just completed the Advanced Pelvic Floor: Stress Urinary Incontinence course with the WHTA. The above information is a summary of the most up to date information from that course.

At WIF, our expert physios can help assess and treat these issues to optimise your pelvic health and improve your confidence.

🌟 It’s Never Too Late to Train Your Pelvic Floor! 🌟

At WIF, we believe in the power of pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) for women of all ages. Recent studies highlight the incredible benefits of starting PFMT, no matter your stage of life:

🔹 85% of women with stress urinary incontinence saw a reduction in symptoms after just 12 weeks of PFMT, with 35% achieving complete continence (Kaya et al., 2022).

🔹 Older women who engage in PFMT can see significant improvements, with 80% showing enhanced bladder control and overall pelvic function (Nygaard & Shaw, 2016).

These findings prove that it’s never too late to start strengthening your pelvic floor muscles! Whether you’re dealing with incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, or simply want to improve your pelvic health, our specialized physiotherapists are here to help you on your journey.

💪 Make your pelvic floor health a priority!

Your Guide to Postpartum Exercise 🌸

Feeling unsure about when or how to start exercise in the 4th trimester? Or finding it hard to make time?

You’re not alone! Start small, be patient with yourself, and remember every step forward counts.

Start with light walking and gentle pelvic floor exercises. Gradually increase activity as you feel comfortable and remember not to compare yourself to others.

Remember to check in with your doctor and ideally pelvic physiotherapist after 6 weeks postnatal to ensure you get individualised advice on returning to exercise. Listen to your body and prioritise healing.

Your journey, your pace! 💪👶

🌟 World Incontinence Week 🌟

Let’s bust some myths about incontinence! 🤯

As a women’s health physiotherapy clinic, we’re here to set the record straight and empower you with the truth:

🔹 What is Incontinence? It’s the involuntary loss of bladder control, affecting 1 in 3 women at some point in their lives. It can range from occasional leaks when you laugh or sneeze to a sudden, uncontrollable urge to urinate.
🔹 Prevalence: Women of all ages, including young mothers and athletes, can experience incontinence, not just the elderly.
🔹 Hydration: Staying hydrated is crucial for bladder health. Reducing water intake can actually make symptoms worse.
🔹 Treatment Options: Many non-surgical treatments, like physiotherapy and pelvic floor exercises, can be highly effective in managing and reducing symptoms.
🔹 Emotional Impact: Incontinence can affect emotional well-being and quality of life, but support and effective treatments are available.

You are not alone, and incontinence is treatable!

Reach out to us for personalised care and take the first step towards a better quality of life. 💖

Attention Female Athletes! 🏃🏼‍♀️

Did you know that the right sports bra can do more than just provide comfort?

Recent studies reveal that increased breast support has a significant impact on your body’s biomechanics, enhancing performance and reducing injury risks. 🏃‍♀️✨

🔹 Knee Joint Biomechanics: Proper breast support changes knee joint stiffness and movement, potentially lowering injury risks and improving running efficiency .

🔹 Trunk Biomechanics: Enhanced support improves trunk posture and movement patterns, which can lead to better overall body mechanics during activities .

🔹 ACL Injury Prevention: Adequate breast support may reduce the risk of ACL injuries by promoting favorable movement patterns and load distribution .

🔹 Overall Impact: Investing in a well-fitted sports bra isn’t just about comfort; it’s about protecting your joints and boosting your performance. Personalized breast support solutions in sportswear can make a world of difference for female athletes .

Takeaway: A correct fitting sports bra is crucial for your athletic performance and injury prevention. 🛡️💪
